JR Shibuya Station's New South Exit Gate to Begin Operation on July 21

JR East Japan has announced that the new south exit gate at Shibuya Station will be relocated to the new station building starting from July 21, 2024. The current south exit gate, which is currently located in the Hotel Mets Ebisu direction, will close at 0:30 AM on the same day.

After the relocation, the new south exit gate will provide direct access to both the Yamanote Line and Saikyo Line platforms. On the Saikyo Line side, escalators, stairs, and elevators will be available, while the Yamanote Line side will initially have escalators only. Stairs and elevators are being installed for use starting in the summer of 2025.

The location of the new south exit gate is part of the ongoing construction of the new station building. The full opening of the new station building is planned for fiscal year 2026. The six-story building will have a total floor area of approximately 5,300 square meters. Floors 4 to 6 will be dedicated to rental offices, and the third floor will house office entrances and shops. There will be a total of four shops, two inside the gate area and two outside. The northern free passage is currently in provisional use and is also under construction.

JR渋谷駅の新たな改札口「新南改札」が7月21日(日)から使用開始となる。使用開始に先立ち、メディア向けに披露された。
渋谷サクラステージの3階と渋谷ストリームの3階を結ぶ北自由通路に設置される新改札。新南改札は現在は恵比寿方面にあるホテルメッツ内にあるが、7月21日初電から移転する形となり、ホテルメッツ内の新南改札は同日0時30分をもって閉鎖される。
移転後の新南改札は山手線・埼京線の両ホームへアクセスが可能。埼京線ホーム側はエスカレーター、階段、エレベーターが用意されるが、山手線ホーム側は使用開始時点ではエスカレーターのみ。階段とエレベーターは2025年夏の使用開始に向けて設置工事が進められている。
新南改札の場所では新駅舎の設置工事が進められており、新駅舎全面開業は2026年度を予定。新駅舎は6階建てで、延床面積は約5,300m2。4～6階が賃貸オフィスとなるほか、3階にオフィスエントランス、および店舗が整備される。店舗数は改札内と改札外に各2店舗の計4店舗。北自由通路も現在は暫定供用の段階で、工事が進められている。
