「AはBより可愛い」
「Aはクラスで１番可愛い」
など、人や物を比較する時の表現。

比較するのは形容詞と副詞！

形容詞・・・tall, young, old, cuteなど

副詞・・・slowly, early, carefullyなど

①ほとんどの形容詞・副詞→er、estを付ける

②eで終わる形容詞・副詞→r、stを付ける

③子音+yで終わる形容詞・副詞→yをiに変えてer、estを付ける

④短母音+子音で終わる形容詞・副詞→子音を重ねてer、estを付ける
※短母音・・・短く「ア・イ・ウ・エ・オ」と読む母音
hot hotter hottest

⑤音節が多い形容詞・副詞→more、mostを前に付ける
※音節・・・発音上の母音のこと。
3音節あればmore most、2音節も大体more most
形容詞にly付けて副詞になっているのはmore most

比較級

「…より～だ」という表現。

形容詞や副詞を比較級にします。

My mother is cute.
私の母は可愛い。

My mother is cuter than you.
私の母はあなたより可愛い。

I can run fast.
私は速く走れる。

I can run faster than you.
私はあなたより速く走れる。

Sleeping is important.
睡眠は大事。

Sleeping is more important than studying.
睡眠は勉強よりも大事。

最上級

「…の中で最も～だ」という表現

theを前に付けて、形容詞や副詞を最上級にする。

My mother is cute.
私の母は可愛い。

My mother is the cutest in the world.
私の母は世界で最も可愛い。

I can run fast.
私は速く走れる。

I can run the fastest of the three.
私は3人の中で最も速く走れる。

Sleeping is important.
睡眠は大事。

Sleeping is the most important of all.
睡眠は全ての中で最も大事。

※具体的な数字やallの時はof。
クラスや家族などの集団や範囲の時にはin。

…と同じくらい～だ
