#10. Interrogation

お店でスタッフ達としゃべっていると、怪しげな二人組が入ってくる。

Man1：I'm Detective Lowenstein, this is Detective Barlow.
ロウワンスタイン刑事です。こちらはバーロウ刑事。

Man1：We were wondering if we could have a word with you.
少し話を聞かせてください。

Neil：Oh, sure. Um, you want to come into my office?
ええ・・・では事務所へどうぞ。

Neil：Guys, can you hold down the fort?
おい、店番しててくれる？

<hold down the fort>
直訳は「砦を守る」。これが転じて「（主や家族が不在の家の）留守を守る」という意味なので、「店番」という意訳でOK。

そして事務所にて。

Man2：So it must really be tough for you... with these big franchise video-stores bringing up every day, must really tick you off...These big guys driving you out of business?
君がつらいのはわかる・・毎日大型店が話題になって、君を怒らせている・・そのせいで閉店の危機なのでは？

Man1：We're not gonna beat around the bush, Mr. Louis.
はっきり言おう。

Man1：We know that you vandalized the Media Giant video store on Tuesday night.
火曜の夜、メディアジャイアントを襲撃したな。

bringing up：明るみにする、話題に出す
tick you off：怒らせる、イライラさせる
driving you：～に陥らせる
out of business：廃業
beat around the bush：遠回しに言いません
vandalize：故意に破壊する

続いて、

Man1：You're actually in a very fortunate situation. The person we're more interested in is your accomplice.
実は君に興味はない。共犯者を探している。

Neil：My accomplice? No, I mean...
共犯者？

Man2：Allright, cut the mealy mouth act, shithead.
とぼけるな、クソ野郎。

Man2：We want to talk about the girl.
彼女と話がしたい。

Man1：We're willing to let you slide on this thing...if you can just tell us where we can find the girl.
彼女の居場所を教えてくれるなら、この件は見逃してやる。

Neil：Why? I mean I barely know here.
ほとんど知らないんだ。

Man1：What you need is tell us where we can locate her.
女がどこにいるか言えばいいんだ。

Neil：Okay. I don't know where she lives, I swear.
誓ってどこにいるか知らない。

Man1：You obviously have some way of contacting her.
連絡先を知ってるのはわかってる。

Man1：A phone number, maybe.
電話番号、知ってるよな。

Neil：No, no, she didn't give me any number.
ほんとに知りません。

accomplice：共犯者
cut the～act ：～をやめる
mealy mouth ：遠回しに言う
barely：かろうじて、ほとんど～ない
swear：誓う
obviously：明らかに

<意訳>
You're actually in a very fortunate situation.
「君は実に恵まれた境遇だ」→「君に興味はない」

探偵たちはなぜかバイオレットを探している。
ニール、ピンチ！果たしてバイオレットの電話番号を教えてしまうのか・・・
