ジャン・プルーヴェとエアジョーダン

『ジャン・プルーヴェ展　椅子から建築まで』

2022年に東京都現代美術館で開催されていた展覧会のカタログです。
学生の頃から大好きなプルーヴェの作品を、たくさん、しかも間近で見ることができた至福の展覧会でした。
ネジのデザイン、大きさ、留める位置、、、。家具や建築を構成するパーツのひとつひとつに美意識が張り巡らされているようで永遠に見ていられます。
プルーヴェのアルミニウムの銀色×翡翠色の組み合わせが大好きで、学生の頃からこの秋に開催する個展への作品まで、大きな影響を受けています。
プルーヴェの作品を見ていると、考え方の美しさがそのまま作品の美しさなんだな、と思います。頭と心と身に沁みる。

最近観た「AIR」という映画の中で、
「機能と美しさは両立しない」との台詞があり、深いなと思いましたが、
いやいや両立してるのよ。プルーヴェに於いては。

余談ですが、
考えて考えて、「全然わからんな」と思うことがあっても、ちょっと力が抜けた時とか、別のことで手を動かしている時に、新しい仮説だったり、解決のヒントが浮かぶことがあります。「全然わからんな」と思っても考え続けることって大事です。

映画「AIR」についても少しだけ。
面白いです。
ナイキのバスケットシューズ、エアジョーダンの制作ヒストリーなのですが、
「モノに意味がつく」ってこういうことなんだな、と感じ入りました。
映画の中で「機能と美しさは両立しない。機能を取る！」と言いながら、エアジョーダンは美しい。

両立しない物事を両立させる闘いの末に、名品は生まれるのでしょう。

Jean Prouvé and Air Jordan

Part 2 of a series of books to flip through when you're tired (see Part 1 here), "Jean Prouvé: From Chair to Architecture".

This is the catalog of the exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo in 2022. It was a blissful exhibition where I could see many of Prouve's works, which I have loved since I was a student, up close and personal. The design of the screws, the size, the position of the fasteners.... The aesthetic sense seems to be stretched over each of the parts that make up furniture and architecture, and I could look at them forever. I love the silver x jade color combination of Prouvé's work, and I have been greatly influenced by his work since I was a student, all the way up to the work for my solo exhibition this fall. When I look at Prouvé's work, I realize that the beauty of the idea is directly reflected in the beauty of the work. It sinks into your head, heart, and body.

In a movie I recently saw called "ARI," there is a line that says "function and beauty are incompatible," which I thought was profound, but no, they are compatible. In Prouvé. You can still see the details of the exhibition on the website of the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, so be sure to check it out.

As a side note, sometimes when I think about something and think, "I don't understand it at all," a new hypothesis or a hint for a solution comes to me when I relax for a moment or when I am working on something else. It is important to keep thinking, even if you think, "I have no idea.

I would like to talk a little bit about the movie "ARI. It's interesting! It is the history of the creation of Nike's Air Jordan basketball shoes, and I felt that this is what it means to "give meaning to things. In the movie, there is a quote, "Function and beauty are not compatible. Take function! but Air Jordan is beautiful.

I believe that masterpieces are born out of the struggle to reconcile things that are incompatible.
