Emo is a word born from a genre of music. However, it is now widely used in Japan besides music.
It was a wonderful experience to get to know about the sense of emo.

エモは音楽のジャンルから生まれた言葉です。しかし、日本では今や音楽以外にも幅広く使われています。
そのエモの感覚を知ることができて、大変すばらしい経験でした。

qbc：So, what do you do?
今、何をされている方ですか？
Löded Diper：I’m a musician and a content creator on YouTube.
ミュージシャンとYouTubeのコンテンツクリエイターです。
qbc：What kind of music are you making?
どんな音楽を作っていますか？
Löded Diper ：I mainly make rock and emo music.
ロックとエモミュージックを制作しています。
qbc：Emo! The word emo is also used in Japan.
Everyday emo is an everyday language for the younger generation.
What kind of music is emo music for you?
エモ！ 日本でもエモという言葉はよく使います。若い世代では日常的に使われています。
あなたにとって、エモミュージックとはどんなものですか？
Löded Diper：To me emo music is music that tries to make you feel something. Usually emo music is known for having pretty sad lyrics but to me that’s not always the case. Of course it usually follows a certain style with specific instruments but I think that emo music can also have positive lyrics as well.
私にとってエモは何かを感じてもらおうとするような音楽ですね。普通エモはすごく悲しい歌詞だと思われていますが、私にとっては常にそういうわけではないです。もちろん普通は特定の楽器を使ってある一定のスタイルがありますが、私はエモでもポジティブな歌詞にすることもできると思っています。
qbc ：What do you like about emo music?
エモのどんなところが好きですか？
Löded Diper ：My favorite part of emo music is that every song makes you, like I said, feel something. Even if a song has no lyrics at all, an emo song causes an emotional reaction that many other genres of music can’t.
the three characteristics of emo music are emotion, instruments used (guitars and drums are a pretty common factor seen across most emo music), and style (usually sad/angry, but sometimes optimistic/hopeful) are probably the most important.
エモの好きなところは、さっき言ったみたいに、どんな曲でも何かを感じさせてくれるところですね。歌詞が全くない曲だとしても、他のジャンルでは引き出せない感情的な反応をエモの曲では引き出します。
特徴を３つあげるとしたら、感情、楽器の使用（ギターとドラムはとても一般的でほとんどのエモで見られます）、スタイル（普通は悲しみや怒り、たまに楽観的だったり希望があったり）。これら３つが一番大事ですかねえ。
qbc：What do you think is the most "emo" these days?
最近、一番エモかったことは？
Löded Diper：While the genre of emo has probably died down a bit from the late 90s/early 2000s, it’s certainly still present in today’s music scene. I can’t think of many off the top of my head but a lot of classic and popular emo bands are still going today, like Fall Out Boy. My personal favorite emo band is American Football.
My favorite style of emo is the more Midwest scene that has math rock elements and that characteristic twinkly guitar sound.
Most of the emo music I listen to gives a nostalgic and sentimental feeling. I like music like that, music that makes you think.
A lot of emo music is focused on the hardships of youth so that’s a theme that resonates with me. The band Cap’n Jazz is one that gives off that youthful rebellious feeling. It’s a theme that I try to incorporate into my own music.
1990年代後半か2000年初期頃からおそらくエモのジャンルってちょっと消えていったんですよね。でもその一方で現在の音楽シーンにもまだ確かに存在しています。あまりたくさんは思い浮かばないですが、多くのクラシックや人気のエモバンドはいまだに活躍していますよ、フォール・アウト・ボーイとかね。個人的に好きなエモバンドはアメリカン・フットボールです。

私の好きなエモのスタイルは、マスロックや特徴的なtwinklyというギターの音を持つミッドウェストの音楽シーンです。
私がエモを聞くときは大体ノスタルジックな気分になったりセンチメンタルな気分になりますね。
多くのエモは若者の辛い経験にフォーカスしていて、そういったテーマに私は共鳴しています。キャップン・ジャズというバンドは若者の反抗的な感情を発しているバンドです。そういったテーマを私の自分の音楽にも取り入れようとしています。

I heard about your present. Now I want to ask about the past.
What made you start music?
過去についてお伺いします。音楽を始めたのはいつですか？
Löded Diper：I’ve been playing music since I was a kid but I didn’t start taking it seriously until a couple years ago, probably around 2018 or 2019. I’ve played guitar and bass for as long as I can remember but it was mostly for myself until I started my channel in 2019.
子供の頃から音楽をやっていましたが、おそらく2018年だか2019年だかの数年前までは別に真剣にやってたわけではなかったですね。ギターとベースを弾いてたのは覚えていますが、2019年に自分のチャンネルを始めるまではずっと自分自身の趣味としてやっていました。
qbc ：How did you create the youtube channel?
YouTubeチャンネルを作ったのはいつですか？
Löded Diper：My channel kind of started as a joke when I uploaded my first “album”, which was a collection of instrumentals with dialogue from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies put over them. That video got pretty popular so I decided to start taking it more seriously and start recording my own music.
自分の最初の”アルバム”をアップした時、私のチャンネルはジョークみたいな感じで始まったんですよ。そのアルバムは、歌なしの曲に「グレッグのダメ日記」という映画の中の対話を被せたものを集めたものです。その動画が結構人気があったのでもっと真剣にそれをやって自分の音楽をレコーディングし始めようと決めました。

Löded Diper：This video is one of the songs from the full album, it’s a pre-existing song from one of the Diary of A Wimpy Kid movies that I included on the album.
この動画はフルアルバムの中の１曲で、グレッグのダメ日記の映画で既出した曲なんですけど、それをアルバムに入れてみました。

この映画とは関係があるのですか？
Löded Diper：Not directly, but my name and a lot of my music is inspired by it. A character in the series, Rodrick, has a fictional band called Löded Diper, so that’s where I got my name. I made the channel when I realized nobody had turned Löded Diper into a real thing, so I gave it a try.
Diary of A Wimpy Kid was a childhood staple for me and a lot of others.
直接は関係ないですね。でも私の名前と私の曲の多くはその映画に影響を受けてます。ロドリックっていう登場人物がLöded Diperという名前でフィクションのバンドをやっていて、そこから私の名前を取りました。Löded Diperのバンドをリアルにやってる人ってこれまでいないなって気づいて、そこから自分がそれをやってみようとチャンネルを作ることにしました。
qbc：So that's it!
So now are you assimilating what you liked when you were a kid?
なるほど。では、子どもの頃の感覚と同化してる感じですか？
Löded Diper：You could say that. I guess the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and movies represent my youth in a way so it’s been fun to take that and find a relevance for it now. I think my usage of the Diary of A Wimpy Kid imagery evokes a lot of nostalgia for many.
そうとも言えますね。グレッグのダメ日記という漫画と映画はある意味私の少年時代を表しているかなと思います。なのでそれを使って関連性を見つけるのを今楽しんでますね。グレッグのダメ日記の映像を使ってるといろんなことを懐かしく思います。

How do you feel when you are working on a project called "Löded Diper"?
"Löded Diper"の活動をしている時って、どんな感覚ですか？
Löded Diper：I sometimes forget how silly the name is, but I don’t mind it. I like being a part of something that a lot of people can relate to.
ほんとアホな名前だなーっていうのをたまに忘れてしまうんですけど、あまり気にしませんね。私はたくさんの人が関わる何かの一部になるのが好きですね。
qbc：Why? "I like being a part of something that a lot of people can relate to."
なぜその一部になりたいのですか？
Löded Diper：I think that it gives me a sense of familiarity for my audience. I like to be a welcoming presence for new viewers so by representing myself as a familiar icon they can join in without feeling lost.
オーディエンスとの親近感を得られるからですかね。新たな視聴者も歓迎したいので、親しみのあるアイコンで自分を表現することで視聴者も迷いなく参加できるようになります。
qbc：I asked about the present and the past.
Now I will ask about your future. What are your thoughts on the future?
今度は未来について聞きます。
未来についてはどう考えていますか？
Löded Diper：My main goal for the future is to keep making music. I’m currently working on my upcoming album “Cranium Shaker” which I hope to release this summer. The first single “The Boardwalk” released last month.
主な将来の目標は音楽を作り続けることですね。現在はこの夏にリリースする予定の「Cranium Shaker」というアルバムを作っています。ファーストシングルの「The Boardwalk」も先月（５月）にリリースしました。
qbc：What is music for your life?
あなたの人生の中で、音楽とはなんですか？
Löded Diper：Music is one of the most important things in my life. If I’m not playing music I’m listening to music. I grew up surrounded by music so it’s one of the things that’s dear to me. Now that I’ve started a channel where I can release music to an audience it’s given me a larger sense of purpose for my music.
音楽は私の人生で一番大事なものです。もし音楽を自分でやっていなくても音楽を聞いているでしょうし。音楽に囲まれて育ったので、私にとっては価値ある愛おしいものの一つです。今はチャンネルを始めてオーディエンスに音楽を届けられるようになり、自分の音楽にとって大きな目的になりました。
qbc：How old were you when you started music?
何歳から音楽を始めたのですか？
Löded Diper：I think I was around 6 years old when I picked up the guitar, and I haven’t put it down since.
6歳頃にギターを触ったときですかね、それから一度もギターを手放してません。
qbc：Do you think you and the character of Loded Diper are similar?
"Löded Diper"と自分は似ていると思いますか？
Löded Diper：I think so. In the books and movies Rodrick is very committed to his band and music and has a clear passion for it. I think I’m similar in the way of having dedication and passion to music.
似てると思います。本と映画の中のロドリックは自分のバンドや音楽にとてもコミットしていて明らかにパッションがあります。音楽へのパッションや献身的なところは似てるんじゃないかなと。
qbc：In this interview, I also hear about other future possibilities.
What would you be doing if there was no music in your life?
このインタビューでは、未来の別の可能性についても聞いています。
もしあなたの人生に音楽がなかったら、何をしていますか？
Löded Diper：If I wasn’t focused on music, I think I would do more filmmaking, another passion of mine. Outside of the channel, movies are one of my biggest passions.
音楽にフォーカスしていなかったら、映画製作をもっとやってたかなあ。チャンネル以外では映画にもとてもパッションを抱いています。

It is symbolic that emo music that directly shakes emotions becomes popular while we're in an era when human relationships are said to be getting weak.
However, I just asked too much about emo music and couldn't hear about Löded Diper himself. This is a reflection of this interview!
