お題 Can the systems of immigration control be effective?

It may be a common sense that immigration control is a crucial component of national security in that it can have preventive effects on potential crimes or job deprivation caused by immigrants. Nevertheless, it cannot be said that immigration control is effective because it impairs countries' ability to digest foreign cultures, stifles their economic development and leads to decline in population.

One cogent reason to support my idea is that controlling the number of immigrants has the potential for depriving countries of ample chances to accept diverse array of cultures. Immigrants with various backgrounds and traditions have contributed to innovative revolution in the way we work and communicate. Without such a cosmopolitan exchanges, countries with immigration control policies can be relegated to parochial nationalism, thereby weakening their national resilience.

Additionally, given the fact that immigration control has regulated the entry and stay of non-citizens in countries, they may encounter less opportunities for exploring their economic advancement. For instance, in many developed countries like the US, France, and the UK, multinational companies have made a significant contribution to economic prosperity. Since such international firms actively welcome immigrants, they can absorb wider variety of foreign cultures, sets of value and languages. Therefore, by incorporating these immigrants' main assets into how  individual companies tackle their work, they can exchange numerous revolutionary ideas in carrying out important projects.

Another contributing factor for my belief is that decline in population remains a grave social issue unless judicious contemplation of the policies of immigration control is allowed. For instance, in Japan, with graying population and declining birthrate, decline in population has been one of the pressing matters in recent years. However, due to bureaucratic systems of accepting more immigrants in Japan, Japanese demographic problem has been exacerbated. Although integration of more immigrants into Japanese society is not a silver bullet for declining population, it partially alleviates the potential ramifications caused by demographic problems like labor shortages.

In conclusion, for three above-mentioned reasons, I firmly believe that immigration control is not a sensible policy.
