異文化交流プロジェクト2021

生徒はフランスと日本在住。
指導者は米国、ドイツにいるという
オールオンラインでの
実験的異文化交流プロジェクトの
ダイジェスト動画をご紹介します。

デュッセルドルフの
インターナショナル小学校の
卒業プロジェクトで、
「移民問題をリサーチして、
その後、クリエイティブなプレゼンを行う」
という 社会科の課題がありました。

トルコ移民の歴史リサーチをもとに
作られた歌が、学校の最優秀賞を受賞。
これが当時11歳のLinaの
Better Road という曲です。

彼女は作詞作曲とパフォーマンスをして、
映像作品に仕上げました。

息子さんがLinaと同じ学校だった
知り合いのKay先生が
二人の動画をシェアしてくださった時には
その作品に大変驚きました。

そして、同年代の子供たちが作った作品をもとに
生徒たちが英語を学ぶことができたら、
言語を超えた、芸術的で
刺激のある活動になるだろう、と
直感的に感じました。

歌は言語学習にとって大切な要素です。
ちょうど生徒たちとともに歌う、
新しい歌を探していた私は、
Kay先生のサポートのおかげで
Linaとのコラボレーションを
始めることができました。

Linaは日本の生徒のために
歌を短く書き直して、
発音がより聞きやすいように
録音し直してくれました。
その後、私が日本語字幕をつけて
新しいYoutubeができあがりました。

日本の生徒たちはこの歌を通して
世界には様々な理由でふるさとをなくし、
教育を受けられない人がいる
ということを学びました。

その後Linaはフランスへ引っ越しをして
13歳の誕生日を迎えます。
日本の生徒たちは歌の感想や写真、
ビデオレターを送り、
Padletというアプリ上で交流をしました。

この映像は、初めて対面した
プロジェクト最終日の様子です。
一人ずつLinaからの質問に答える形で
スピーチをし、 歌を歌ったり
クイズ大会をして楽しんだ様子が見れます。

Intercultural Project 2021
France x Japan
US x Germany

The footage is a record of an intercultural project, all conducted through online instructions and interactions.

Participating students reside in France and Japan, and the teachers are in the US and Germany, making this a unique and experimental project.

Hello.   My name is Mariko.   I am an English coach in the US, teaching students in Japan online.

This project began when an international elementary school in Dusseldorf, Germany, assigned 6th-grade students a creative presentation after researching major historical events and their impacts.  It was the social studies graduation project.

A song titled "Better Road" based on the Turkish immigration to Germany won the best presentation award.  It was written, performed, and created into a music video by then 11 years-old Lina.

Kay, an old friend of mine, who has a son in the school, teaches Japanese and English.  When she shared Lina's music video and her son's brilliant performance video with me, I was so impressed by their work, and I wondered if I could somehow incorporate them into my lessons.

Singing is a great way to learn a language and what if the song is written and performed by a girl of the students' age?  It will be impactful beyond language learning.   Lyric writing, music, and movie making are great art forms, and I thought Lina would surely inspire my students.

With Kay's help, our collaboration began. First, Lina created a short version of Better Road which is easier for the students to sing. She re-recorded it, and I added Japanese subtitles, and we made a new YouTube video.

Then, Japanese students learned the background history of the lyrics and practiced the song. They understood that some people lose their homes for various reasons, and some cannot get an education.

Later, Lina moved to France. On her 13th birthday in July, students sent her birthday wishes, photos, letters, and video messages on Padlet and started interacting.

At the end of September, we had an online meet-up to conclude this fun project. Each student answered Lina's questions which they received before the meeting. They sang songs, played the quiz "How Well Do You Know About Lina?" and had a great time.
