昨日BBQをしました　We had a BBQ yesterday.

On Saturday (25th), we had a BBQ.
There were 34 participants, including four children aged from one year to second grade.

There were 11 participants with roots outside of Japan: 2 from China, 2 from Algeria, 1 from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 1 from Belgium, 1 from Oman, 1 with dual roots from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Belgium, 1 with roots from Ghana and Japan, and 1 with roots from Cameroon and Japan.

Watching the atmosphere of the BBQ and hearing feedback from participants made me very happy.

Everyone engaged in conversations naturally, much like a BBQ among just Japanese people.
It's not that the Japanese participants at the BBQ were particularly interested in foreign countries; there were only a few who were interested in Africa or the Middle East.

Personally, I have an interest in Africa and the Middle East, so I sometimes participate in events related to those regions.
However, if I were to organize an event myself, I would like to create one where Japanese people not interested in Africa or the Middle East could interact with people from those regions.

People interested in Africa actively seek information about it in their daily lives.
However, those uninterested in Africa never really think about seeking information on it, and may even harbor prejudices against Africans, Middle Easterners, or foreigners in general.
Engaging with people from Africa or the Middle East would undoubtedly spark their interest in those individuals' home countries.

With these thoughts in mind, seeing the atmosphere of yesterday's BBQ made me very happy.

The next BBQ will be in October.
I hope that the participants with foreign roots who attended this time will join us again next time.

土曜日（25日）、BBQをしました。

１歳から小学校２年生までのお子さん４人を入れて参加者は34人。
日本以外にルーツを持つ人も11人参加してくれていました。
中国（2人）、アルジェリア（2人）、コンゴ民主共和国、ベルギー、オマーン、コンゴ民主共和国ｘベルギー、ガーナｘ日本、カメルーンｘ日本。

BBQの様子を見たり、参加した人からの感想を聞いて私はすごく嬉しかったです。

日本人だけのBBQのように参加者の皆さんが自然な感じで話をしていたからです。
BBQに参加していた日本人はすごく海外に興味がある人たちということではありません。　アフリカや中東に興味がある人は少数でした。
私はアフリカや中東に興味があるので、アフリカや中東関連のイベントに参加することがあります。
でも、自分がなにかのイベントを企画する場合は、アフリカや中東に興味を持っていない日本人とそうした地域から来ている人たちとが接することができるイベントをやってみたいと思っています。

アフリカに興味を持っている人は普段からアフリカについての情報を得ようとします。　でも、アフリカに興味を持っていない人はいつになってもアフリカについての情報を得ようとは思いません。　それどころか、アフリカや中東そのほか外国の人に対して偏見を持っているかもしれません。
そうした人がアフリカや中東から来た人と話すことでその人の出身国にも興味を持つようになるに違いないです。

こういう考えをわたしはもっているので、昨日のBBQの様子を見ていて、私はすごく嬉しかったのです。

次回のBBQは10月です。
今回参加した外国ルーツの人たちが次回も参加してくれることを期待しています。
