【詩】飛べない鳥

昔は空を飛べたはずなのに
　今はもう飛ぼうともしない。

　　空が恋しくないわけじゃないが
　　　この大地から離れる気にはなれない。

たしかに空は広いけど
　どこまでいっても空でしかない。

　　　いやなことは少なかろうけど
　　　　楽しいことがそんなにあろうはずもない。

翼がすっかり退化しても
　羽がみんな抜け落ちても

　　　飛ぶことしかできない鳥でいるより
　　　　飛べない鳥でありたい。

A Bird That Can Not Fly

In the past I should have been able to fly the sky,
but now I will not fly anymore.

I do not mind missing the sky,
but I can not feel like leaving this ground.

Certainly the sky is wide,
but no matter how far it is, it is only sky.

There are few things I do not like,
but there can not be so much fun.

Even if the wings degenerate completely,
even if all the feathers drop out,
I would like to be a bird that can not fly
than a bird that can only fly.
