【詩】最後の一葉

病室の窓から大きなイチョウの木が見える。

窓辺に座ってスケッチブックを開き　
　鉛筆で写生を始める。

太い幹を描く。細い枝を描く。
　一枚一枚、葉を描く。

それから水彩絵の具で彩色する。

幹を塗る。枝を塗る。
　一枚一枚、葉っぱを塗る。

まだ秋になったばかりなので、葉は緑色。
　そのうち秋が深まると、葉は黄色。
やがて冬になり、葉は散る。

最後の一枚を彩色する前に　
　最後の一葉が散ってしまった。

だから　
　スケッチブックのイチョウの木は　

　　　下の葉は緑色で　
　　　　途中から黄緑色になり　
　　　　　上の葉は黄色に塗られていて　

　　　最後の一葉は白いまま。

The Last Leaf

A large ginkgo tree is visible 
From the window of the hospital room.

Sit on the windowsill, open a sketchbook 
And start sketching with a pencil.

Draw a thick trunk. Draw thin branches.
Draw leaves one by one.

Then paint with watercolors.

Paint the trunk. Paint the branches.
Paint the leaves one by one.

The leaves are green, as it is just autumn.

When the autumn deepens,
The leaves are yellow.

Eventually it will be winter
And the leaves will scatter.

Before painting the last one,
The last one was scattered.

So the Ginkgo tree in the sketchbook is
Green on the bottom,
Yellow-green from the middle,
The top is painted yellow,
And the last leaf is white.
