Harmony
The Fox was enjoying songs by an acapella singer.
"la-la-la."
“Wow, the harmony is very beautiful. I wish I could sing like that.”
The Fox decided to join an acapella club in his local area.
“I'll do my best to improve my ability to sing songs!”
“Oh, you have passion! Let's see... can you sing this song?”
Although the Fox sung with vigor, the performance was not so good.
The acapella instructor said to him,
“Thank you for your performance! It was very upbeat. Let’s practice together and have fun!
The fox was motivated and wanted to sing like the members in the club, so he practiced a lot.
“Hey, Fox! Why don’t you go home with me?”
“Oh, sorry. I can't; I want to practice more.”
“Yo, Fox! Let’s take a break!”
“No, I wanna keep singing.”
The fox was only interested in improving his singing skills.
And he gradually began distancing himself from the members to ensure enough time for practice.
However, the singing performance was soon approaching.
Each club member would sing as a group in front of audience
Despite his hard word, the fox was not as good at singing compared to the other members because he lacked experience. “Fox, you should use an unconstrained voice in this part.”
“Fox, you shouldn't take a breath here!”
The fox messed up so often that his group had to redo the performance many times.
"Since fox isn't a part of our group anymore, we can sing more songs now!”
“Yeah.. I'm tired of singing the same ones."
“I want to sing without him!"
“We had a singing test in music class at school today and Lion was very nice.”
"Oh, he doesn't have any singing experience, does he?”
The fox was shocked to hear complaints from the members.
That night he watched his favorite acapella singer do an interview on the internet.
“What is the important thing when you sing in harmony with other singers?”
“Umm, when I sing in harmony with others, I'm not only listening to their voices, but also communicating with them. We cannot sing in harmony alone and without understanding others. For example, we need to know what they're thinking, how they're feeling and so on in order to make good music."
The fox suddenly realized the importance of interacting with the others.
The next day the Fox apologized to the other members.
“Hi, guys. I'm so sorry for my poor singing skills. I have to practice more and make more effort. But the worst thing was not working as a team. I was just concentrating on myself. So from now on I'd like to make music together with you.”
The members were amazed, and one said to him,
“It’s okay! We also didn't realize you were making a lot of effort to join the group. Let’s put the past behind us and start rehearsing for the show!”
During the show, harmony and cheer could be heard throughout the hall.
Commentary
The fox was not as experienced as the other members in the acapella club in terms of his singing ability. Also he often turned down invitations to visit other members' homes and take a break with them. He preferred practicing alone, which created a distance between him and the group.Thus, he became the target of exclusion, which is the Black sheep in the “Black sheep effect”. Black sheep effect is the phenomenon that people evaluate those with favoravle characteristics in the same group higher and those with unfavorable characteristics lower. In this story, in the point that the Fox was not good at singing as the members was devalued, and in the point that the lion who does not belong to the club and sing well to some extent was highly evaluated, which are applied to the consequence of “Black sheep effect”. In order not to be a Black sheep, it is effective to communicate with people in your group regularly and to build rapport.
