On the 11th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, here is a video message from Swiss Ambassador H.E. Dr. Andreas Baum to the children in the affected areas of Tohoku.

バオム大使、メッセージをありがとうございました。Support Our Kidsのプログラムにお力添えをいただき本当にありがとうございました。
私たちは、国連や国際赤十字連盟、IOCまたスイスの様々な地域を訪れて、国際性やスイスの自然や文化に触れることが出来ました。
私はスイス大使館が与えてくださった機会を通して成長し、グローバルな視野を持つことができるようになりました。
福島は震災前の状態に戻りつつあります。しかし、11年経った今でさえも汚染水処理問題や農産物の風評被害などが残っています。
震災の記憶が消え去らないように、後世に伝え、復興への歩みを続けて行くことが大切であり、私たちの任務だと思います。
Dear Ambassador Baum,
Thank you very much for your warm message and your support for the Support Our Kids project. I have been able to learn about internationalism, and Switzerland's beautiful nature and culture. These experiences have helped me grow and develop a global perspective. Fukushima is making progress in its reconstruction and is returning to its pre-disaster state. However, issues such as contaminated water treatment and harmful rumors about Fukushima's agricultural products remain unresolved, even 11 years later. We believe it is our duty to pass on the memories and lessons of the disaster to future generations without letting them fade away and to continue the progress toward reconstruction.
バオム大使、スイス大使館の皆様、お久しぶりです。この度は、東北大震災に対しての心優しいメッセージを送ってくださりありがとうございました！
私の住んでいる福島市は、スイスの方々の手厚いご協力、ご支援もあって、東日本大震災以前以上に復興することができました。また、東京オリンピック2021もあり、福島の魅力を全国に発信することが出来ました。しかし、原子力発電所近くの市町村はまだ立ち入り禁止であり、完全な復興はまだ出来ていません。なので、これからも活動を続けていこうと思っています。
現在、私は高校1年生で、将来に向け一生懸命勉強しています。私の高校では、高校外に向けた発表会などが頻繁に開催されていて、私はそれに積極的に参加するようにしています。また、部活動では、世界の貧困問題の解決策を編み出すために植物の再生について調べています。このような心構えをもてたのも、スイスでの貴重な経験があったからだと思います。ですので、私たちをスイスに行かせて下さったスイス大使館の皆様には、本当に感謝しています。
最後になりますが、現在コロナが流行していて、自由に外出できない状況にあります。健康に気をつけてお過ごしください。メッセージ、本当にありがとうございました！また会える日を願っています😊
Dear Ambassador Baum, Embassy of Switzerland,
Thank you very much for sending this heartwarming message to the Tohoku region! The city of Fukushima, where I live, has been recovering even better than before the Great East Japan Earthquake, with the generous cooperation and support from Switzerland. And the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 made it possible to showcase the best of Fukushima to the rest of the world. However, towns and villages in Fukushima near the nuclear power plant are still off-limits and have not yet been fully rebuilt. So we are going to continue our recovery efforts as much as we can. I am currently in my first year of high school and studying hard for my future. My high school frequently organizes presentations and other events for people outside the high school, and I try to actively participate in these. In addition, my club activities involve researching plant regeneration in order to develop solutions to the world's poverty problems. I believe that I have this kind of mindset now because of my valuable experience in Switzerland. So I am grateful to the Embassy of Switzerland. Last but not least, there is currently an outbreak of coronavirus infection, which is preventing people from going out freely. Please take care of your health.

２０２０年１月にスイスへ渡航させていただき、ローザンヌ2020冬季ユースオリンピック競技大会の観戦とボランティア参加、スイス家庭でのホームステイ体験、国際機関の訪問など、多くの貴重な経験の機会をくださりありがとうございました。
それらの経験が、「多言語者となり日本と世界を繋ぐ仕事がしたい！」という今の私の目標に繋がりました。
私は4月から獨協大学で語学や異文化を学び、海外留学も経験して、国際的に活躍できるように頑張ります！
Thank you very much for the valuable experiences during the Programme Switzerland in January 2020. I will never forget watching and volunteering at the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games, homestay with a Swiss family, and visiting international organizations. After returning home, I am determined to become multilingual and work as a bridge between Japan and the rest of the world! From this April, I will study languages and different cultures at Dokkyo University in Saitama, experience studying abroad, and become an internationally active person!
2年前、スイス大使館のプログラムに、「東北復興アンバサダー」として、私たちを加えていただき、ありがとうございました。震災から11年経った今でも、私たちの故郷のことを考え、祈ってくださっている大使に感謝致します。大使のビデオメッセージを拝見し、今の私があるのは、スイスの支援のおかげだと強く感じました。
そして何より、私たちの故郷を「被災地」ではなく「東北・福島」と呼んでくださったことに感動し、スイスと私たちの絆をより深く感じることができました。
震災の時のことは、今でも昨日のことのように鮮明に覚えています。
当時小学生だった私は、今大学生です。この11年間、スイスでの研修をはじめ、さまざまなことを振り返るたびに、スイス大使館をはじめ、多くの方々に支えられてきたことに感謝の気持ちでいっぱいになります。
この11年間で東北はすっかり変わりました。大使が実際に東北を訪れ、さまざまなプロジェクトに触れ、私たちの故郷に強い関心を寄せてくださったことを嬉しく思います。
これからは、様々なイベントやプロジェクトに参加し、人や社会を支えられるような人間になりたいと思います。そして、スイスと日本の架け橋になれるように頑張ります。ありがとうございました。
Thank you very much for the opportunity to participate in the Embassy of Switzerland's programme for 2019. I would like to thank the Ambassador for thinking and praying for my hometown in Tohoku, 11 years after the disaster. After watching the Ambassador's video message, I was reminded that it is thanks to Switzerland's support that I am where I am today. Above all, I was moved by the fact that the Ambassador described our hometown as 'Tohoku/Fukushima' instead of 'disaster area', which made me feel the bond with Switzerland even more deeply. I still remember the time of the disaster as vividly as if it were yesterday. I was a primary school student then, and I am now a university student. Whenever I look back over the past 11 years and the many things I have done, including participating in the Support Our Kids Programme in Switzerland, I am filled with gratitude for the support of the Swiss Embassy and many other people. Over the past 11 years, Tohoku has completely changed. We are delighted that the Ambassador has actually visited Tohoku, been exposed to various projects, and has shown a strong interest in our homeland. From now on, I will participate in various events and projects and try my best to become a person who can support people and society and be a bridge between Switzerland and Japan.

あの震災から１１年。あの素晴らしいスイスでの二週間から３年。
１１年前とも３年前とも違う視点から過去を振り返ると、あの経験が今の私にどれほど大きな影響を与えていたのかを思い知らされます。
視野が広がった、復興に対する意識が変わった、スイスと東北に対する想いが強くなった。例を挙げればきりがありません。
東北はレジリエンスによって魅力的な街になれる可能性を秘めています。
それに少しでも貢献できるよう私も活動に励んでいきます。

Thank you very much to Ambassador Baum and the Embassy of Switzerland for your wonderful message. Eleven years have passed since the disaster. Three years have passed since those wonderful two weeks in Switzerland, and looking back at the past from a different perspective than either 11 or three years ago, I am reminded of how much influence that experience has had on me today. My perspective has broadened, my awareness of the recovery process has changed and my feelings towards Switzerland and the Tohoku region have grown stronger. There are too many to count. Tohoku has the potential to become an attractive city because of its resilience. I would like to do my best to contribute to its development in any way I can.

メッセージありがとうございます。
東日本大震災から11年が経過し、私は今年も黙祷を捧げました。津波の被害があった地域では防波堤を当時よりも頑丈に高く作られ、子供たちが遊ぶ声などが響いているというテレビの報道を聞き、この11年間、私の住むいわき市も復興に向けて歩めてきたということをスイスプログラムでお世話になった方々に報告したいと思います。
バオム大使に仰っていただいているように、日本とスイスは絆の強い友好国だと思っています。スイスへ訪問してから約2年が経ちますが、現地での貴重な体験を思い出す日が多々あります。
昨年の東京オリンピックでは、コロナウイルスの影響で、通常のオリンピックとは大きく違う開催となったと思いますが、無事成功したことを日本人として、また福島県民として本当に嬉しく思います。
現在、世界規模で平和について考えなければならない状況に直面しています。平和の祭典であるオリンピック・パラリンピックが北京で開催している中、このような紛争が起きたことは、私自身もスイスでユースオリンピックを経験していることもあり、非常に残念に思います。
しかし、紛争に関わる当事者でなくとも、私たちにもなにかできることはあるはずたど考えています。スイスで学ぶことのできた、国際的な人道的交流や平和について思い出し、全世界に平和が訪れることを心から望んでいます。
Eleven years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake and again this year, I offered a moment of silence. I heard TV reports that in the areas affected by the tsunami, breakwaters were sturdier and higher than at the time have been constructed, and I could hear the voices of children playing. I would like to report to those who helped me during the Swiss programme that my hometown, Iwaki, has also made progress towards recovery over the past 11 years. As Ambassador Baum said, Japan and Switzerland are close friends with strong ties. It has been almost two years since I visited Switzerland, and for many days I reminisce about the precious experiences I had in Switzerland. I believe that last year's Tokyo Olympics were held in a very different way from the normal Olympics due to the pandemic, but I am really happy as a Japanese person and as a citizen of Fukushima Prefecture that the Tokyo Olympics were a success. Today, we are in a situation where we have to think about peace on a global scale. I myself experienced the Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland, and I am very sad that such a conflict occurred while the Olympic and Paralympic Games, a festival of peace, were being held in Beijing. However, even those of us who are not directly involved in the conflict can do something about it. Remembering what I learned in Switzerland about international humanitarian exchange and peace, I sincerely hope that peace will come to the whole world.
バオム大使、東日本大震災11年メッセージありがとうございます。現在も東北のことを思ってくださること、友好関係を深めてくださっていることに深く感謝しています。
私は2020年に復興アンバサダーとしてスイスを訪問したことで世界の見方が変わりました。そして、どこかの国で起きている問題や災害が自分のことのように感じられるようになり、国際機関で世界の架け橋として活躍するという夢ができました。
東北は東日本大震災から復興し、明るさを取り戻しています。しかし、東北をはじめとする日本では現在も新たな地震が発生し再び被害を受けた地域もあります。私はこれからも東日本大震災での経験や震災から学んだことを復興アンバサダーとして全国や世界に広め、さらなる復興や災害対策に経験を活かしたいです。
現在は新型コロナウイルスの影響でSOKのホームステイプログラムはストップしてしまっています。しかし、その中でも私たちにできることはあると信じています。私はスイス大使館の皆さまとSOKとコンタクトを続け、スイスと東北の絆をさらに強められるよう願っております。
Ambassador Baum, thank you very much for your message on the 11th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake. I am deeply grateful that the Ambassador is still thinking about Tohoku and our friendship. Tohoku has recovered from the Great East Japan Earthquake and is regaining a bright future. However, some parts of Japan, including the Tohoku region, are still being affected by new earthquakes and are suffering again. As an ambassador for recovery, I will continue to share my experiences from the disaster and what I have learned from them, both in Japan and abroad, for further recovery and disaster management. However, we believe that there is still something we can do in this situation. We hope that the Swiss Embassy and Support Our Kids will keep in touch and strengthen the ties between Switzerland and Tohoku.
