Panasonic develops vaccine cold-storage box

Japanese electronics giant Panasonic has developed a storage box for coronavirus vaccines that need to be kept at ultralow temperatures. The company says the product will be available in two sizes, both in line with packages handled by regular delivery services.

Panasonic uses its vacuum insulation technology with seamless panels to help keep the temperature inside the box low. Company officials say dry ice is used to keep the temperature below minus 70 degrees Celsius, and the larger model can maintain that level for up to 18 days.

The company says the box is capable of storing the vaccine jointly developed by America's Pfizer and Germany's BioNTech. Panasonic plans to start selling the boxes as early as April, after providing samples to pharmaceutical and logistics firms.
