６月２９日の朝日新聞に、選挙広告とデ・キリコの美術作品展の広告が並んで載った。
有象無象の立候補者たちに紛れ込むようにキリコのロゴと絵が屹立している。
これは、新聞社と美術館がたくらんだいたずらか？
美術展の広告に使われた絵はこれだ。
本作の主題は、ホメロスによって謳われたトロイア戦争の物語の一場面。トロイアの勇将ヘクトルは、愛する妻のアンドロマケに別れを告げ、戦場に赴く。ここでは二人はキリコが偏愛を寄せた無機的なマネキンに変えられ、背景には冷たい構築物が特異な遠近法によって描かれる。
Wikipediaによると、ヘクトルとアンドロマケの生涯は過酷だ。
ところで、選挙広告を新聞に載せるための条件はこのように決まっている。
選挙広告のサイズは公職選挙法により、ヨコ94mm、タテ2段以内と決められています。タテ2段のサイズは掲載新聞により異なりますが、朝日新聞、読売新聞、産経新聞、毎日新聞、東京新聞、中日新聞は全て66mmとなります。
選挙広告は選挙により掲載可能回数が決められており、衆議院議員選挙・参議院議員選挙などの国政選挙は最大5回、都道府県知事選挙は最大4回、市区町村長選挙や自治体議員選挙などの地方議会議員選挙は最大2回、広告掲載が可能です。この広告掲載可能回数内であれば、掲載新聞を組み合わせることができ、国政選挙で最大5回であれば、朝日新聞と読売新聞に2回ずつ、東京新聞に1回といった組み合わせが可能です。
衆議院議員選挙・参議院議員選挙、都道府県知事選挙の場合、広告費は公費となります
つまり、知事選挙の立候補者は無料で４回、新聞に広告を掲載できる。
総務省によると、知事選に立候補するための供託金は３百万円である。
通常の新聞広告を出すためにかかる費用は、場所と大きさで決まる。
選挙広告の場合、一件で94mm × 66mmだ。
これと同じ大きさの広告費用は載っていないが、記事下の一番安い広告費用（190mm×66mm）は、朝日新聞の東京本社版で税別1,885千円もする。
仮に選挙広告１個分の実費が９０万円だとして、これを４倍すると３６０万円になる。
知事選挙の場合、有効投票総数の十分の一未満の得票数だと供託金の３百万円は没収されるが、当選を期待しない立候補者の主張や氏名の広告代としてはお得だ。特に関東地方のように人口が多い地域では（東京都の隣県でも東京都知事選挙候補者の広告が載る）。
そして、供託金で賄えない費用は、税金で負担することになる。

The Public Offices Election Act stipulates that the size of election advertisements must be within 94mm horizontally and two columns vertically. The size of two columns vertically varies depending on the newspaper, but the Asahi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun, Sankei Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun, Tokyo Shimbun, and Chunichi Shimbun are all 66mm. The number of times election advertisements can be placed is determined by the election, with advertisements being allowed up to five times for national elections such as House of Representatives and House of Councillors elections, up to four times for prefectural gubernatorial elections, and up to two times for local assembly elections such as mayoral elections and local government assembly elections. As long as the number of times advertisements can be placed is within this limit, advertisements can be combined in newspapers, and for a maximum of five national elections, a combination of two each in the Asahi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun, and one in the Tokyo Shimbun is possible. Advertising costs are publicly funded for House of Representatives and House of Councillors elections and prefectural gubernatorial elections.
This means that candidates for the gubernatorial election can place their advertisements in newspapers four times for free. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the deposit required to run for governor is 3 million yen.
The cost of placing a regular newspaper advertisement depends on the location and size.
For election ads, the size is 94mm x 66mm. There are no prices for ads of the same size, but the cheapest ad price (190mm x 66mm) at the bottom of the article costs 1,885,000 yen (excluding tax) in the Tokyo edition of the Asahi Shimbun.
If we assume that the actual cost of one election ad is 900,000 yen, multiplying this by four comes to 3.6 million yen. In the case of gubernatorial elections, if a candidate receives less than one-tenth of the total valid votes, the 3 million yen deposit will be confiscated, but it is a good deal for candidates who do not expect to win to use it to advertise their claims and name. Especially in densely populated areas such as the Kanto region (Tokyo gubernatorial candidates' ads are also placed in the prefectures neighboring Tokyo).
Any expenses that cannot be covered by the deposit will be borne by tax money.
