藤原とうふ店（自家用）
年末の新聞には、各国の特派員が書いたコラムが載る。
その中に、ちょっと可笑しい記事があった。
ベルギー東部リエージュに行った時のことだ。道路脇に駐車されていた白い車に「藤原とうふ店（自家用）」と日本語で書かれているのが目についた。
長男（１２）は「近くにお豆腐屋さんがあるんじゃない？ ネットで調べてみたら？」とうれしそうだ。「近くにあるのかもね」。私も少し気分が高揚した。
だが、ネットで検索してすぐに分かった。「藤原とうふ店」というのは、人気漫画「頭文字（イニシャル）Ｄ」に登場する主人公の実家だ。漫画では主人公の車に、その店名が書かれている設定なのだとか。
この漫画は、ヤンマガWebというサイトで読むことができる。
主人公は豆腐屋の息子という設定で、彼が豆腐の配達に使ったり、公道でのレースで乗り回すのが、トヨタのAE86という車両だ。
このクルマは１９８７年に販売完了したが、この漫画の影響で今でも高値で取引されているという。
特派員がベルギーで見たのがAE86かどうかはわからないが、ウィキペディアには、下のような写真が載っている。
ステッカーも売られているので、ベルギーのクルマにこのようなのが貼られていたのかもしれない。
この漫画の連載は１９９５年に始まった。
主人公の父親は、無免許の息子にクルマを運転させたり、豆腐を作りながら喫煙したり、猛スピードでカーブに突っ込みながらハンドルから両手を離して煙草に火をつけたりする。
一方、息子は普段ぼーっとしているが、下のように、キレた時に才能を発揮するキャラクターだ。
緊迫した場面での大仰なナレーションと、車体に書かれた「藤原とうふ店」（自家用）との対比が笑いを誘う。
amazon.comに、この漫画の英訳版があった。この場面のニュアンスは、海外の読者にどう伝わっているだろうか。
車好きの人々の「聖地」と言われる、横浜市の首都高速道路大黒パーキングエリアには、クルマ好きの外国人が大勢多数訪れるという。
（インドネシアから来た１６歳の少年は）「頭文字（イニシャル）D」も好きで、海外でも10、20代を中心に人気だと教えてくれた。SNSで大黒PAを知り、見に行きたいと両親に懇願して来日した。
人の好みは様々だと、今更ながら思う。
なお、インドネシアの首都ジャカルタの物価は案外高いそうだ。
ビッグマック指数も見てみた。２０２３年１２月８日時点で、日本の４５０円に対して、インドネシアは３５８円。これについては、インドネシアの方が安い。最も高いのは、スイスの１，０９８円で、アメリカだと７９３円。
Fujiwara tofu store (private car)
Newspapers at the end of the year include columns written by correspondents from various countries. There was an article in there that was a little funny.
It happened when we went to Liege in eastern Belgium. I noticed a white car parked on the side of the road with the words "Fujiwara Tofu Shop (Private Car)" written in Japanese.
My eldest son (12) said happily, "Isn't there a tofu shop nearby? Why don't you look it up on the internet?'' "Maybe there's one nearby." I also felt a little excited.
However, I quickly found out after searching on the internet. "Fujiwara Tofu Store" is the tofu shop owned by the main character's parent who appears in the popular manga "Initial D." In the manga, the store's name is written on the main character's car.
This manga can be read on the site "Yanmaga Web".
The main character is the son of a tofu shop, and the vehicle he uses to deliver tofu and race on public roads is a Toyota AE86. Sales of this car ended in 1987, but it is still traded at a high price due to the influence of this manga.
I don't know if it is the AE86 that the correspondent saw in Belgium. Wikipedia has the AE86 photo.
There is also a sticker for sale that says "Fujiwara Tofu Store (Private Car)," so that kind of sticker may had been affixed to a Belgian car.
The serialization of this manga began in 1995. The main character's father lets his unlicensed son drive a car, smokes while making tofu, and takes his hands off the steering wheel to light a cigarette while driving into a curve at breakneck speed.
On the other hand, his son is usually absent-minded, but he is a character who shows his talent when he lost his temper.
In the tense scenes of the manga, the contrast between the exaggerated narration and the words "Fujiwara Tofu Store" (for private use) written on the car's body elicits laughter.
Amazon.com has an English translation of this manga. How is the nuance of this scene conveyed to readers overseas?
The Daikoku Parking Area on the Metropolitan Expressway in Yokohama, which is said to be a "sacred place" for car enthusiasts, is visited by many foreign car enthusiasts.
(A 16-year-old boy from Indonesia) also likes "Initial D" and told me that the manga is popular overseas, especially among teenagers and 20s. He came to Japan after finding out about Daikoku PA on social media and begging his parents to go see it.
I realize now that people have different tastes.
According to this article, prices in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, are surprisingly high.
I also looked at the Big Mac index. As of December 8, 2023, the price in Indonesia is 358 yen, compared to 450 yen in Japan. In this regard, Indonesia is cheaper. The highest price is 1,098 yen in Switzerland, and 793 yen in the United States.
