Hosting the Olympics


  Do you remember the Olympics held under the COVID-19 pandemic? The Olympics held in Tokyo 2021 then in Beijing 2022. However, I wonder the Olympics really gave us good impact of economics or social atmosphere. I think it was not so much worth holding here. I certainly understand that the Olympics aimed world peace instead of the war. Showing sports game help us cheered and vitality for tomorrow. Children watching wonderful sports players would get dream for the future. People in the world will continue to exercise to stay healthy. Nevertheless, the Tokyo Olympics was not good enough for me that live in Tokyo. In order to support my opinion, I would show some data or individual point of view that focus on the Olympics Tokyo 2021

 First of all, hosting the Olympics costs a huge amount of money. It is coming to nothing if the Olympics lead us damage to economics in your country. Of course IOC: International Olympics Committee bears some budget, but hosting country must have responsible for make it success. According to TOC: Tokyo Olympics Committee, the final budget of total was about 1.5 trillion yen. Breakdown of budget is 860 billion yen for facilities,540 billion yen for operating expenses and 96 billion for COVID-19 measures. The burden amount was 630 billion yen for Olympics committee, 624 billion yen for Metro Tokyo, and Japanese government for 190 billion yen. [1] Hosting country should plan impact to surpass these huge amount of budget. However, there are doubts about whether the Olympics Tokyo had it or not.

 Secondly, local community had less enthusiastic for Tokyo 2021. In 2013, Japanese had burst the joy for being hosting country. However, some scandals had gradually appeared around the hosting. Then some Japanese media often showed critical opinions and some people felt skeptic to make hosting the Olympics success. Even worse, COVID-19 had influence around the world. Tokyo Olympics should have suggested new type of hosting big event in pandemic. Tickets sales were less than expected before COVID-19 pandemic. During Olympics, Japanese people checked how many medals player got everyday or cheered in front of TV at home. But it was not so much impact to prosperity of Tokyo. It was not like the Tokyo Olympics 1964 that gave us dreams and hopes. Luckily, they could prevent from COVID-19 pandemic getting worse because of the Olympics.

 Thirdly, there are same some negative legacy so far. Before the Tokyo Olympics, new stadiums and facilities were constructed. It is necessary that they are used effective way not only for the Olympics game but also after the Olympics ends. Nonetheless, it is fact that there are some facilities that is deficit for maintenance costs. For actual example, Tokyo aquatics center, Ariake arena, Uminomori water stadium, Canoe slalom center, Oi hockey stadium, and Yumenoshima park archery range. [2] These five are constructed for not temporary but permanent. So it is need that they are used effectively by local people.
As a local people who plays hockey, I can say the situation of Oi hockey stadium. The hockey stadium has 4 courts. They are located gulf area in Tokyo city. It takes 15minutes from the nearest monorail station where is not so close to center of Tokyo. I am not sure how many people visit this place to play hockey. And more, it cost 4 billion for maintenance a year. The stadium manager side are making efforts to gather players and spectators for empty stadium. However, field hockey is not known as baseball or soccer in this country. For the situation of miner sports like this, it should have been considered well how to use after the Olympics. I suggest that we utilize the stadium excepting sports such as music festival, festival for local people, and other sports. Moreover, hosting place should develop commercial facility and residence building with its venue area.

 In conclusion, the Tokyo Olympics is not so much good impact to our local people. Little change has occurred in Tokyo. Even during the Olympics, I did not feel big positive change. Some shops opened, the Olympics goods were sold at the shop. But we hoped as inbound visitors were not there less than we expected at first. I know it is because of COVID-19 by large. Instead of this, I think hosting country is better to choose from developing country. Because it is difficult to big economics change in develop country if we hold the event. In developing country, if the Olympics held, people in the world watch carefully. The more people get curious about the country. It will possible be the target of investment. The Olympics and its legacy should be not only one host country but also other countries too.
