短編映画制作日記 #11 「前例」 | Production Notes #11 "Precedent”
A film cannot be made without the cooperation of many people. And when it comes to independent films, it's just a matter of people who want to do something that they don't have to do in the first place. This is half independent film and half PR for the region. I went with the Tokushima prefectural government to ask for cooperation on location. The first thing I'm asked is, "Who's going to be in that movie?" Well, it's a natural question. It's a natural question. That's good PR for the area. I understand. I understand. On the other hand, our attitude as filmmakers is cool: "I'm going to make a good film regardless of whether it's famous or not!" That's our attitude. That kind of spirit or enthusiasm can move a lot of collaborators. There are times when they gradually listen to our selfish requests, which we don't understand, and in some cases do more than we ask. When we ask for help from various places, we sometimes hear people say, "Actually, I once helped out with a movie and had a bad experience. It's not our fault, but it's our responsibility. It's not our fault, but I feel like it's a rude thing that my colleague did and I apologize. I'm going to make sure that this doesn't happen again, that I'm not rude wherever I go, and that my cooperation is worth it. I also want to leave a good precedent so that when I ask my juniors to help me in the same place again someday, they will be happy to do so. Films are made of people and communities.
映画は本当にたくさんの方々の協力無しにはつくることができない。ましてや自主映画となればそもそもやらなくてもいいことをやりたい奴らがやっているだけの話だ。今回のこれは半分自主映画でもあり半分は地域PRの一環でもある。ロケ地の協力は徳島県庁と一緒にお願いに行く。行く先々で真っ先に聞かれるのが「その映画、誰が出るの？」まあ、当然の質問です。有名な誰かが出る。ということが地域のPRになる。わかる。わかる。一方、制作する僕らの姿勢としてはカッコよく「有名無名関係なくいい作品をつくるぞ！」という気概で前へ進む。その気概というか、熱意みたいなものが、たくさんの協力者を動かすことがある。よくわからない僕らの勝手なお願いを徐々に聞き入れてくれて場合によっては求めている以上のことを担ってくれる時が。いろんな場所にそうして協力をお願いしていて時々、実は以前映画に協力して酷い目にあったことがあって。というのを耳にする。自分たちの責任ではないけど、なんだか同僚がしでかした失礼のような気がして謝る。こんなことのないようにどこへ行っても失礼のないよう、そして、協力した甲斐があったと言ってもらえるようにしようと思う。そして、いい前例を残して、いつかもう一度同じ場所で後輩が協力をお願いするときに喜んで協力してくれるようにしておきたい。映画は人と地域でできている。
