映画制作日記 #15 「主題歌のこだわり」 | Production Notes #15 "Theme Song Obsession"

When the film was still in the planning stage, I was writing the plot (original story) while listening to a song. All the films I've made so far have started in the same order. As far back as 1992, I made my first 8mm short film with a song by XTC (New York production version, Flipper's Guitar song for the Japanese version). Since then, Kanami Tazoe, Sambo Master, and Ryota Fujimaki have sung the theme song for each film. Sometimes I meet the artists in person. Sometimes I even meet the artists in person. This time it was Roth Bart Baron's song "Hero". I've listened to it so many times that I think I've listened to it more than the artists themselves. I send the song at the same time as the plot during staffing (although it is the same crew), and I send the song at the same time as the script is written and the actors are offered the part. The theme song should always be the last song of the movie, from the last scene to the end roll. This may sound like an old-fashioned production structure, but it is how I see movies. There is no way I would put in a song that doesn't fit the theme of the movie and is a sales pitch for adult reasons. When I listen to music, I usually put this song on my list for the theme song. It's very important to me. At the end of the movie, I hope that people will listen to the theme song at the end roll and feel warm and fuzzy as they ruminate on the movie. Yes, I want to make a movie where no one leaves their seat until the end roll. To be continued.

映画がまだ構想段階だった時、ある曲を聴きながらプロット(原作)を書いていた。これまでつくってきた映画の全てが同じ順番で始まっている。遡る事1992年、初めてつくった8mmの短編映画にはXTCの曲(ニューヨーク制作版、日本向けにはフリッパーズ・ギターの曲)。その後は田添香菜美、サンボマスター、藤巻亮太と毎回映画に主題歌をつけている。それも原案を書いている時に曲を決めて許諾をとっている。時にはアーティストに直接会ったりして。今回はRoth Bart Baron(ロット・バルト・バロン)の「HERO」という曲。ひょっとしたらアーティスト本人たちより聴いてるんじゃないかと思えるほど繰り返し聴いている。スタッフィング(と言っても同じスタッフだが)の時もプロットと同時に曲を送り、脚本ができて役者にオファーする時も同時に曲を送る。主題歌は必ずラストシーンからエンドロールにかけて映画のラストを飾るようにする。なんとも使い古されたような演出構成だが僕の「映画観」がそれなのである。映画のテーマに合っていない大人の事情の売り出しの曲を入れることなどもってのほか。普段音楽を聴いている時にこの曲はいつか主題歌にとリストに入れていたり。とても大切に思っている。最後の最後にエンドロールで主題歌を聴きながら映画を反芻しながらじんわりして欲しいと願う。そう、エンドロールが終わるまで誰も席を立たない映画をつくるのだ。つづく。
