When I was in elementary school

Mangrove trees are being cut down for shrimp farming in Southeast Asia, destroying local ecosystems and human livelihoods. Japan is the largest export destination for shrimp.
We consume shrimp without knowing the current situation, and restaurants easily throw shrimp away for profit. But when I thought that the livelihood of the local people was lost because of each shrimp, I couldn't help thinking that I was an indirect perpetrator. For example, between people, it is ethically wrong to hurt another person for your own benefit. But I felt it was a problem that this is allowed in the business world.

Social business

I was interested in environmental issues caused by business, so I learned a lot about business and worked on it myself.
From this experience, I realized starting a business is only possible if you have the passion to solve the problem seriously. I learned that problem-solving only begins when the ability to think through the essence of the problem and the enthusiasm to implement the solution are combined.
And I realized that environmental problems are secondary disasters created by politics and economics to respond to people's desire to become richer. Then, I became interested in social business, thinking, "Nowadays, when the definition of 'richness' is changing, the business may be able to solve environmental problems."

What do you want to protect?

I applied for the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) project of the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, interviewed entrepreneurs working on social businesses, and wrote articles.
A common point among the social entrepreneurs interviewed was that they started businesses because they didn't want to give up their favorite things because of social problems. “I want to protect what is important to me.” The reason for working on a social project was simple and the most important.
What I cherish is "feeling a connection with loved ones and nature." I realized that the reason why I have an awareness of environmental and social issues is that they cut off or distort that connection.

Superimpose self-expressions

In order to solve social problems, it was easy to imagine that the solutions would be derived from various specialized fields and social problems.
Therefore, it is important for various people to work on problem-solving while making use of their own strengths.
Therefore, considering the university campus as a “small earth”, we planned an event called “Sustainable Week” to “solve the problems on the campus by doing what we can”. I led as commander, and 28 student groups and 700 students who agreed with this concept gathered, and various projects were carried out in one week. What I wanted to express in this event was that it is important for everyone to think about "what shape of society do you want to create?" and "what kind of person do you want to be?" and start working on what we can do. Finally, over 2,000 people participated in Sustainable Week, where each person thought about the "ideal society" and expressed their own ideas.
This event was the first student-sponsored SDGs experiential event in Japan, and was widely covered by the media and received high praise both inside and outside the university.

Art

“How do we get to the core of social problems?”
I've been searching for it all my life so far. A superficial solution cannot be a fundamental solution. That's why I feel the need to continue searching for truly meaningful solutions.
To that end, it is important to first know the origin of your awareness of the problem.
Expressing the indescribable feeling in the middle of the heart.
This work of art is myself, the language between me, people, and society.
