Ice age for Single Ladies

A very talented, successful girl friend of mine told me last night that

Being a single in late 20s to mid 30s in Tokyo ain't easy

You have to go through many steps until you reach to be able to explain that it’s your choice being single.

Even though life is full of choices, and you can choose to be who you want to be, there’s still this mindset that “not being married” is the stamp for “loser” for single ladies especially for our age.

In my grandma’s age,

Going to university was not a choice for most of girls

Neither being single was

Or being working mom was

Thanks to the modern technologies and equal rights opportunity, there are lot more chances that women to participate in the society.

Why though, why our life has been developed rapidly and everyday there’s innovation happening here and there to make our life better, yet our mindset stopped its evolution.

Is having less choice happier for women?

Is the choice making us so difficult to fit in society?

Is the choice evil?

I’m not a feminist, nor defending myself, but only setting the goal to get married and judge on that is so 19th century.

Of course being loved and have something you want to protect is maybe a fundamental function you're given as a human nature.

And it’s true that being loved make your life more colorful.

But why not.

Why not try something new.

Why not tastes something no one had ever tried.

Why not enjoy the choice that is fairly given to everyone.

There’s nothing you “have to” do in your life.

Live up the ice age, single ladies.

Fin.
