Petcare Startup Map 2023
The "Petcare Startup Map 2023" that I have had the privilege of contributing to, focuses primarily on North America and Europe, and showcases startups that are deserving of attention and recognition within the industry. This post provides a summary of the map's categories and the global trends driving them. Discover the latest press release for this map, available in Japanese language only. To give a comprehensive understanding of the pet care, pet wellness, and pet wellbeing market, which has attracted many companies, I've divided it into three main categories and further subcategorized each one. I'll explain them now. Feel free to use this map on social media and elsewhere as you like!
Large Category
1.Petcare by Professionals: The first category is professional pet care provided by qualified experts such as veterinarians, veterinary nurses, groomers, etc., along with their supporting services.
2.Petcare by Pet Parents: The second category encompasses pet care at home using products and services supervised by professionals.
3.Petcare with Others: The third category is pet care that enhances the overall quality of life for both pets and their parents.

Professional Veterinary Care

The first and foremost form of pet care is in-person consultation and treatment at veterinary hospitals. In recent years, leading players in the veterinary hospital industry have used technology to create a less stressful mobile experience for customers, from scheduling appointments to payment and follow-up. An increasing number of boutique veterinary hospital startups are offering new customer experiences and veterinary care exclusively to members through a subscription model. Modern Animal and Small Door are among the leading players in this field, and the startups vary by location, including Modern Animal on the West Coast, Small Door on the East Coast, and Petfolk in the Southeast. On the other hand, some startups are differentiating themselves by offering low prices, specializing in emergency care, or acquiring competitors with large sums of money raised from PE funds. In addition to North America, I also see the rise of "tech-forward veterinary hospitals" in Germany.
