1. SUSTAIN THE UNTRUTH

この日について考えると、思い出すのはとにかくめちゃくちゃ寒かったことです。真冬のボストンやニューヨークで見た事はありますが、新木場という海に囲まれているSTUDIOCOASTは、今まで経験した事ある他のライブと比べたら一番寒かった気がします。寒すぎて、グッズを買った後はずっと駅の中に避難してビールを飲んでいました。

Thinking back to this day, the first words that come to mind: It was freezing. I've seen DIR EN GREY in the middle of winter in both Boston and New York City, but in Shinkiba, which is surrounded by sea on all sides, it seemed colder than I've ever experienced while waiting for a concert. It was so cold that I decided to hide in the station for an hour or so after buying some goods, with beer of course.

寒さにも関わらず、ライブを待っている多くのファン達は半袖のままでした。すごいと思いました。歳はそんなに上ではなさそうに見えた（だってDIR EN GREYのライブの面白い点は、ファン達の年齢が結構バラバラなこと）というか、私の年齢が平均なように見えたのに、私はどうしたんでしょうか。まあ、まあ、友達と一緒にいるとお互いを楽しませられるから、グループの方はこの寒さを我慢出来たようにみえました。そしてライブの最中で、皆さんは私よりもう少しワクワクして踊るかなと思いました。私はなぜかわからないけど、ライブで動けないです。ライブ中に元気でいられる方は、バンドを幸福な気持ちにさせるから、すごく尊敬します。

Although I was cold, it was surprising to see a great number of fans in short sleeves! Respect. I was scared for a second, but I do not think that I'm just getting old. One of the most interesting things about DIR EN GREY concerts is that the age of the audience is really mixed, with my age group (mid-late twenties) probably being somewhere near the average. So why couldn't I handle the weather? Well, most of these fans were in groups with their friends and seemed to be getting each other excited. I assume that they are also more active than I am inside during concerts. I usually don't move around much. I really admire those who have that kind of energy though. They probably greatly contribute  to the band's energy!

最初の曲は、思った通り「The World of Mercy」でした。9月に買ったシングルを聞いていたので、ライブで生で聞くのをずっと楽しみにしていました。シングル版よりライブの方が良かったです！これは13回目のDIR EN GREYライブなので、こういうことにはもう慣れているはずですが、CDよりもライブの方が上手いという事実をいつも実感します。新鮮で力強く、そして強烈でした。シングルにはなかった京さんの音響効果や叫びが目立っていて、曲の中盤のギター、突然激しく叩かれた部分は鳥肌が立ちました！

The first song was, unsurprisingly,「The World of Mercy」. I had been eagerly waiting to hear this live since buying the single in September, and I was not let down. Their live performance was even better than the recorded version. This happens every time. Even with this being my 13th DIR EN GREY concert, I am still reminded that they sound even better in concert. It was fresh, powerful, and intense. Kyo's additional sound effects and screams also really stood out and the middle section where the guitars are slammed gave me goose-bumps.

"The Insulated World"の曲は、大体今回のセットリストを含んでいましたが、他のアルバムの曲も少し入っていました。全部の曲の中で目立っていた曲は色々ありましたが、特に「Celebrate Empty Howls」に感動しました。ブリッジで、京さんのオペラのようなファルセットはすごかったです。声は本当に強いですね。あと、久しぶりに「Merciless Cult」をライブで聴き、結構インパクトがありました。初めてDIR EN GREYを聴いたはこの曲だったので、ライブでやった時はすごく嬉しくなります。歌わずにはいられないですね。かっこいい曲です！

「GASP FOR BREATH, 愛してください、この血もその意味も」

All together, there was an amazing selection of tracks (mostly coming from "The Insulated World"), several really stood out. I was impressed once again by「Celebrate Empty Howls」, especially with Kyo's opera-like falsetto in the bridge. His voice is so powerful!「Merciless Cult」, because it had been a while, hit me hard. It might just be due to that fact that this was the first DIR EN GREY song I had ever listened to, but when it's performed live, I can't help singing along. It's a really cool song!

「GASP FOR BREATH、Please love me, this blood and the meaning」

最初のアンコールは、特に私にとって良かったです！やっとライブで「腐海」を聴けました。"Vestige of Scratches"の新しい録音を聴いた時から、ずっとライブでやるのを待っていました。想像したよりもすごかったです！そして「凱歌、沈黙が眠る頃」もやりました。この曲が始まり、私が親和性を感じるのは、その時代の激しいDIR EN GREYであるということを改めて確かめました。その後に「THE DEEPER VILENESS」と「歌踏み」がきて、もう、激しい曲が多ければ多いほど最高ですね！エネルギーに満ちていて、体内に血が駆け巡りました。

The first encore, was amazing for me. Finally, I heard 「腐海」live! I had been waiting for it since the rerecording was released on "Vestige of Scratches". It was as great as I had imagined it. Then, they played 「凱歌、沈黙が眠る頃」, 「THE DEEPER VILENESS」, and 「歌踏み」. These heavy hitters got my blood flowing. I was reminded once again where my affinity lies within the DIR EN GREY discography. The heavier the better! 

最初のアンコールが終わる際、スクリーンに動画が出て、TOUR20疎外を発表しました！このツアーは来春行われ、10日間に及び、2020年7月の ”The Insulated World -The Screams of Alienation-“に続きます。7月ライブの最終2日間のフィナーレは、は最近出来たばかりの「ぴあアリーナMM」で行われます。このような特別なライブ告知に、ライブの皆さんは喜んで叫んでいました！でもその直後、「え？ぴあアリーナ？どこ？」という感じこ反応も聞こえてきました。

After the first encore, a video appeared announcing TOUR20 疎外! This tour will consist of ten days in spring followed by 2020年7月LIVE ”The Insulated World -The Screams of Alienation-“ album tour finale, with two days (7/23 and 7/24) at PIA ARENA MM in Yokohama. This announcement in particular was met with an interesting reaction. Of course, everyone was instantly excited and happy that there will be a special performance! But after the first cheer, everyone said, "Where? What's PIA ARENA MM?". 

会場が明るくなり、「本日の演奏が終わりました」のアナウンスが流れ始めたにも関わらず、皆さんはまたアンコールを叫び始めました。最終的に京さんはまた舞台に上りましたが、もう着替えていたので、2回目のアンコールは期待していなかったかもしれないです。とにかく、バンドとファン達共に、もう一曲を楽しむことが出来ました。

Finally, the lights brightened and an announcement from the speakers told everyone the show was over and to go home, but instead , we started cheering for another encore. The band eventually came back on, slightly reluctantly (Kyo had already changed clothes). Regardless, they seemed really happy that we wanted more and us fans were thrilled for one more song. 

2回目のアンコールが終わり、つまりライブの真の終わりということですが、ホールから出てロッカーから荷物を取り、帰り道に向かって歩き始めました。会場の角を回ると、驚いたことに、ペニュちゃん2人がチラシを配っているではありませんか。私の命にとってメタルはとても大切ですが、こういう怖可愛いキャラクターも同じくらい大好きです。可愛かったです！多分皆さんも同じこと考えていたと思います。ハグしたいぐらいでした！

When it was truly over, I exited, collected my things from a locker, and started towards the street. But as I turned around the corner of the venue, I found two Penyus spinning around, giving out fliers. Metal is my favorite, but I have a weak spot for these kind of scary cute characters. They were so cute! I'm sure we were all thinking the same thing: we want to give them a hug!

また、ライブあるあるですが、新しいインディーズのバンドが駅までの道中に立ち、自分たちのライブのチラシを配っていました。今回はDe-Clioというヴィジュアル系バンドでした。（リンクは下に貼っています。）

Also, as is often the case, there were some members of a new indie band waiting outside the venue to pass out fliers. This time it was a band called De-Clio. (link below)

結論 / Final Thoughts:

DIR EN GREYは何も言えないほど、ライブで最高です。アルバムやシングルももちろん素晴らしいのですが、ライブで聴くといつも本当に驚きます。今回はメンバー達がとても元気そうで、演奏も良かったです。雰囲気やセットリストに関しては、他の"The Insulated World"ツアーと結構似ていたけど、今回は、特に私が見にいった3月のライブと比べると、もうちょっとエネルギーに溢れていて激しかったです。

DIR EN GREY is always better live, so much that I'm always surprised. They were in great condition this time and played an amazing show. It was basically in tune with the other "The Insulated World" tours in terms of overall theme and song selection, but the energy this time seemed a bit more intense than the show I saw in March at Zepp Tokyo. 

コスチュームも面白かったです。最近は、マントを重要視しているみたいです。ベースを弾く度、としやさんのケープが揺らぎ、一番楽しそうでした。そして京さんのピエロメイク。かっこよかったけど、ちょっと迷っていました。最近"Joker"を見たからかなと思っていましたが、彼はずっと昔からそういう感じのメイクもしているので、どうなんでしょうかねぇ。

Besides the music, everyone's costumes were cool, too. There seems to be an emphasis on capes recently. Toshiya's looked the most entertaining, swishing around as he thumped his bass. And as for Kyo's clown makeup, I was conflicted. Has he watched "Joker"? Or was this just his typical makeup? Regardless, it fit perfectly. 

次のツアー楽しみです！
