最後に買ったLD(レーザーディスク）は「スター・ウォーズ エピソード1」で、確か2000年の事だった。LD、と言っても若い人たちにはもう通じないかも知れない。メディアとしては終わっているが、非圧縮映像でコピーガードもない、という事で自分の中では未だに魅惑的だ。最近、その膨大なストックから一部をDVD-Rに焼き直している。更にそれをコンピューターに取り込むワザを覚えた（ただのパソコンですが、コンピューターと書くと何だか壮大なスケール感！）。更に、そのオーディオ部分だけを抜き出してiTunesのライブラリへ移動させた・・・。一体自分は何をやっているんだろうか。結局はカタチにしないと気が済まないので、Jamというソフトを咬ませて音声レベルを統一し。更にクロスフェード編集・・・「スターログ・オーディオ」とタイトルをつけてコンピレーションCDを作成した。いやあ、何やってんだろう・・・暇だな。「博士の異常な愛情」の予告編（格好良すぎ！）や、ロバート・エイブルによるワイヤーフレームCGがクールな「ブラック・ホール」の予告編、はたまた「レイダース」の複葉機と「帝国の逆襲」のミレニアム・ファルコン、それぞれの飛行シーンを繋いだり・・・とやりたい放題。映像で編集するとぎこちないと思うんですが、音声だとシームレスでいい感じなんです。全部で70分程にまとまった。ジョン・ウイリアムズの裏ベスト盤といった意味合いも兼ねています（テーマ曲は敢えて収録しない）。
正直、販売したい勢いなんですが、あくまでも僕個人の為に作ったものです。

小学6年の誕生日に「スター・ウォーズ」のサウンドトラック盤を買ってもらったのがきっかけで、以来、彼の作品を聴き続けている。沢田研二やピンク・レディーの新曲よりも、ジョン・ウイリアムズの新作の方が楽しみだったことを昨日の事のように覚えている。彼の代表作とされる楽曲の数々は、自分の思春期に立て続けに発表されていたから・・・そして、2020年は、僕にとって、またもやジョン・ウイリアムズ・イヤーとなったのだった。

なんと永年待ち望んでいた「タワーリング・インフェルノ」のオリジナル・サウンドトラックがCDで再発されたのだ。困ったことに「ポセイドン・アドベンチャー」と「大地震」との3枚組という抱き合わせ企画だったが、このようなCDは生産枚数も少ないため、一期一会、思い切って購入した。

昨年発売されたのではないが、リチャード・ドナー版「スーパーマン」のサウンドトラックも、特別仕様で発売されていたのでついでに購入。（映画の冒頭でかかる曲などが初収録。）
また、「ジョン・ウイリアムズ・ライブ・イン・ウイーン」というCDとブルーレイのセットも発売された。こちらは新作で、高齢になっても（1932年生まれというから、89歳！）なお、創作の手を緩めない彼自らが指揮する様子を堪能できる。ウイーン・フィルの方々も、緊張感の中、実に楽しそうに演奏している！アンコールの「帝国のマーチ（ダース・ヴェイダーのテーマ）」の高揚感をなんと表現したらいいのだろうか！そして、長年自分が抱いてきた「本格的なクラシックを演奏してきた方々にとって、ジョン・ウイリアムズの音楽はどう聴こえているのだろうか？」という疑問も、アンネ=ゾフィー・ムターとの対談によって、実に明快な回答を得る。自分は、トップダウンの芸術ではなくポップ・カルチャーに寄り添ってきたから、ここにきて、またもや彼の哲学に勇気づけられたのだった。

The last LD (Laser Disk) I bought was "Star Wars Episode 1" in 2000, I think. Although it is no longer used as a media, it is still fascinating to me because it has uncompressed images and no copy protection. Recently, I have been re-burning some of my huge stock of DVD-Rs. I've also learned how to import them into my computer (it's just a computer, but the word "computer" gives it a grand scale! ). Furthermore, I extracted the audio part and moved it to my iTunes library.... I don't know what I'm doing. In the end, I had to give it shape, so I used Jam software to unify the audio levels. Watching the trailer for "The Extraordinary Love of Dr. Seuss" (too cool!) or the trailer for "The Black Hole" with its cool wire frame CG by Robert Able, or connecting the flight scenes of the biplane from "Raiders" and the Millennium Falcon from "The Empire Strikes Back". I think it would be awkward to edit the video, but the audio is seamless and nice. All in all, it came out to about 70 minutes. It's also meant to be a behind-the-scenes compilation of John Williams' best work (I didn't dare include the theme song).
To be honest, I'm tempted to sell it, but it's just for my own personal use.
I was given a copy of the "Star Wars" soundtrack disc for my sixth grade birthday, and I have been listening to his works ever since. I remember as if it were yesterday that I was more excited about John Williams' new album than the new songs by Kenji Sawada or Pink Lady. And 2020 was another John Williams year for me.

Although it was not released last year, the Richard Donner version of the "Superman" soundtrack was also released in a special edition, so I bought it as well. It was the first time to include the song that plays at the beginning of the movie.
Also, a CD and Blu-ray set called "John Williams Live in Vienna" was released. This is a new album, and even at his advanced age (he was born in 1932, so he is 89 years old!), he still has a lot to offer.
