Present Tenses, Part 3.2 – 現在完了に頻出する[場面]と[演出]
Present perfect tense で物語る文章では、 [場面:いつ]や[演出:どれだけの間]がよく用いられます。どんなものがあるのでしょうか。Present perfect が伝える情報を振り返りながら見ていきましょう。
1. The Durations of a Permanent Situation or Quality
日々変わることのない状態や性質が、どれだけ続いてきたか
They have stayed with us for a week.
彼らは私たちのところに滞在して1週間になる。It‘s been raining for hours.
何時間も雨が降り続いている。
for ~
〜間
He’s been watching that programme every week since it started.
彼はその番組を開始以降毎週欠かさず観続けている。I’ve worked here ever since 1987.
1987年以来ずっとここで働いてきた。
since ~ / ever since ~
〜以来 / 〜以来ずっと
They’ve lived in Liverpool all their lives.
彼らは生涯リヴァプールに住み続けてきた。My son has been playing the game all week.
うちの息子ときたらこの1週間ずっとゲームに勤しんでいるよ。(断続的にやり続けている。)

I’ve always enjoyed teaching children.
これまでずっと教える仕事を楽しんだきた。

2. Experiences up to the present
現在までにしてきた経験や積み重ね
I’ve climbed around 50 mountains so far.
これまでに50ぐらいの山を登った。The boxer has beaten 20 challengers up to now.
そのボクサーは現在まで二十人の挑戦者を退けてきた。

これまでのところ
We’ve been to Australia before.
オーストラリアなら、僕らは以前行ったことがあるよ。

He’s been listening to a lot of music in his life.
彼は人生の中で数多くの音楽を聴いていきている。

人生の中で
one’sのところには、my, your, her, theirなどのpossessive(所有格)が入ります。
She’s never told me about her expenses.
彼女は何にお金を使っているのか話してくれたことがない。
never (in negatives)
全く〜ない(否定文で)
Have you ever had a serious illness?
これまで深刻な病気にかかったことはありますか?

生まれてからこれまでに(疑問文で)
3. Recently completed event
起きたばかりの出来事
A team of scientists has recently discovered a new breed of monkey.
ある科学者チームが最近になって新種の猿を発見した。Latetly, she has broken up with her boyfriend.
つい最近のことなんだけどさ、彼女恋人と別れたんだよね。
recently / lately
つい最近、この頃
“have” と past participle(過去分詞)の間もしくは文頭か文末に置くことができます。
He has just got back from his holidays.
彼は休暇から戻ったばかりだ。

4. Past event that has a result in the present
現在に結果が現れている過去の出来事
I’ve already read the book.(I know the story.)
その本ならもう読んだよ。(あらすじを知ってる。)
already
すでに、もう
The government face masks hasn’t arrived yet. (I don’t have them.)
政府配布のマスクがまだ届いていない。(持っていない。)Has she received the notification of the exam result yet?
彼女は試験の合否通知をもう受け取った?

まだ(否定文で)/ もう(疑問文で)
She still hasn’t replied to my email. Maybe she’s on holiday.
彼女ったらまだメールの返事をくれないんだよね。休暇中かな。

“still” の位置に注意してください。

代表的なものはこんなところです。言語とは柔軟なものなので、文脈がしっかりしてさえいれば、他にも様々な表現が可能なことは頭に入れておいてください。「そんなの習わなかった」と落胆するのではなく、「へぇ、そんな表現の仕方もあるんだ」と発見を喜ぶのことも、言語学習の大切なコツのひとつです。
