two satirical poems June 21 2024

Today I heard again the overblown boast

of the honourable Knight-of-the-Post

eternally adorning himself in his shining Amor Mundi

"I shall assail today those turning vanes of windmill

yet once more with a blood-seeking lance

launched from the back of a slow and ever plodding donkey

that shall deliver to me all the world's tangible chance

this charging ever downhill and uphill till the deliver

I call my unending dominion in Progress

and there is infinity without pain in a Man

atop an ever burdened beast of burden, of the Man's Progress

who sits gravely, and lashes out orders

for those that are beneath him to move his Kingdom forwards"

The Kingdom of Progress,

The immortality that couched itself upon the crest of a donkey,

made into an eternal signum by many wily and slothful monkeys

Mean and menial charger for the King's Post.

./
"Uncultivated"
to one whose nature is barbarous

deep sorrow rarely takes root

and lost ships do not find their way home

most of all, the clouds are heavy

who will not recommend their sentiment
