【英語で読書感想文】No Exit by Taylor Adams テイラー・アダムス『パーキングエリア』

This book has captured my attention for a while and I finally picked it up this year! “No Exit ” is a nerve-wracking thriller from beginning to end and absolutely is a page-turner. (By the way the Japanese title is “A Parking Area”. Sometimes Japanese titles of foreign books are questionable).

Darby is a college student and on her way home to see her sick mother. She pulls over a rest stop where there are 4 people. While a heavy snowstorm forces them to take refuge for the night, Darby accidentally finds a girl locked up in a car owned by one of the people in the rest stop. She has to find out who is the kidnapper and who is a reliable person. If she chooses the wrong one, surely the night will turn out to be a disaster for everyone (it’s already horrible though).

Although they can go outside, this is a kind of closed circle mystery. The weather becomes worse and worse so they have to stay there all night. Darby cannot use her phone to reach others due to weak WiFi connection and a dying battery so it’s impossible to ask for help. Actually, we can see whose car the girl is held in early on, but of course, there are more twists and surprises. The story progresses quickly and intensely with no dull parts. However, I’m not satisfied with the ending. I mean the plot is fine but I’m just wondering why the author wrote the final twist that way. All in all, this was a very enjoyable read except for the last few pages and as many readers already said, this book seems to be suitable for a movie adaptation!
