日記：ノイバラの蒸留水を採りました

森の野薔薇を集めて蒸留水を採りました。
花弁だけを集めて蒸留するので手間が非常にかかるのに、
咲いている時間が短いので、本当に少量限定ですが、近々販売します。
さて野薔薇の英名はJapanese Rose。
日本にある数少ない原種のバラのようです。
I collected wild roses from the forest and extracted their distilled water.
The English name for these wild roses is "Japanese Rose," one of the few native rose species found in Japan.

一般的なバラ(品種改良された園芸品種)のような
薔薇特有の華やかな芳香はあまり感じません。
ゲラニオールやシトロネロールのように
香りに華やかさをもたらしてくれる成分は、
人には大変好まれますが
虫にとっては大嫌いな成分なので、
あぁなるほどなーと妙に納得してしまいました。
Unlike the typical cultivated roses, which possess a vibrant and captivating fragrance, the wild roses do not exhibit such pronounced aromatic qualities.
Components like geraniol and citronellol, which contribute to the alluring scent of roses, are highly favored by humans but detested by insects.

薔薇が選ぶのは虫と共生する世界で、
人が描くのは人と共存する世界。
こう書くと当然のことですが、
それが香りの差異として見て取れるのは面白い。

野薔薇には華やかさはありませんが、
遠くから漂ってくるみずみずしい花蜜の香りは
なんとも優しく鼻腔を包んでくれます。

花蜜を感じさせるアルコール成分は親水性が高く、
空気中の水蒸気に乗って遠くまで運ばれます。
梅雨前の大気が不安定な時期にあえて咲くのも、
何か意味があるのかな、なんて
野薔薇の気持ちになって考えてしまいます。

It's intriguing to realize that roses thrive in a world of symbiosis with insects, while the world humans envision is one of coexistence. This distinction in fragrance reflects this unique relationship.

Although lacking in flamboyance, the scent of fresh nectar wafting from the wild roses envelops the senses with a gentle touch.
The alcohol compounds evoking the essence of nectar are highly hydrophilic and can be carried far away on airborne water vapor.

The fact that they choose to bloom deliberately during the unstable atmospheric conditions before the rainy season makes me wonder if there is a deeper meaning behind it all. I can't help but empathize with the sentiment of the wild roses and ponder upon their intentions.
