Tom Misch の才能に遭遇したのは
YouTubeの "Mahogany" というChannelで紹介されるミュージシャン達のPromotion Videoのひとつから。
彼が出演するPVの楽曲は 他のミュージシャン達とのコラボレーションものも含め 粒揃いだなぁ と驚かされました。

初回は フィクションと現実と回想が重なる 物語仕立ての 『Movie』 を。
冒頭に挿入される独白が 重く扉を閉じた後
お馴染みのエレキギターが 間合いを計るように 静かな旋律を繋ぎ始め
フィルムリールの映写機がカタカタと投射する モノクロの映像。
それを眺めているTom Mischと 彼のモノローグ。
聴き終わりの余韻に 自分の内側に貼り付いたなにかを覗き込みながら
答えのない想像を巡らせてしまいます。

“Movie” is the 4th track from Tom Misch’s second studio album: Geography.
Released as a single on the 2nd of November 2017, “Movie” is a poignant song reflecting on the memories of a previous relationship.
The intro, performed by Misch’s sister Polly, is reminiscent of early 20th century Hollywood romance. This retro theme is revisited in the music video for “Movie”, which features authentic black and white footage of Misch’s grandparents, Margriet and Klaus Misch, circa 1945.
苗字は勿論 お祖父さんのファーストネームから ドイツ系?と邪推しましたが Klaus はオランダやデンマーク そして北欧にもまたがる名前なんですね。そして お祖母さんの Margriet は オランダの名前なのか。。。
他人様のお名前なのに 野次馬根性でアレですが 悪気はなくて そういうのに何故か興味が湧く性質なんです。

彼の曲を オルタナティブ・ロック に分類したサイトもありますが それが妥当なのかは 生憎 自分には判断できません。
境界領域のようなものを区分するのは不毛ですし そもそも音楽の区分は便宜のための些事ですからね。。。
取り急ぎ Jazz/Rock と括ってしまいましたが あしからず。
