英詩のマガジン の本配信、今月2本目です。歌われる詩の1回めです。今回はボブ・ディランのアルバム '"Love and Theft"' (2001年、下) に収められた 'Mississippi' です。本マガジンでは取上げていませんが、'Cold Irons Bound' (アルバム 'Time out of Mind' 所収) と同じく、'Rosie' (ミシシッピ州刑務所の収容者が唄っていた黒人労働歌) をもとにしていると言われています。

長い詩なので、数回に分けて取上げる予定です。

録音は2001年5月 (ニューヨークの Clinton Recording Studios)。録音エンジニアは Chris Shaw. プロデューサは Jack Frost (Bob Dylan).

It uplifts and strengthens the heart, whilst softening and humbling it at the same time. No matter my mood, grabs the attention like no other song and lyrics. Like the best woman when she walks into a room, and all of a sudden, everything else becomes irrelevant. This song is riddled with love and strength; a constant in my life. His ballads are excellent, Workingman's Blues #2 is another - thank you R.Z. Many of his songs are about movement and changes, and yet at the heart of it all is the most steadfast man, and this makes me find strength and reconnect with myself - dig deep and be forgiving and accepting of nature and nature of others. The importance and weight of his compositions far outweigh the majority of even good songs. I don't usually like it when people compare artists and songs, but its hard not to with Bob Dylan.
