Every year on August 14, 15, and 16 is the customary day of Obon in Japan.
Although the dates vary slightly from region to region, it has become a summer tradition.
The spirits of ancestors are welcomed on the 14th, spent together on the 15th, and sent off to heaven on the 16th. The ceremony of sending off the spirits is called "Seirei-nagashi".
Today, large scale "Seirei Nagashi" ceremonies are still held as local events or as tourist events, but there are still some families that invite monks to perform sutra chanting.
Since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, respectively, and Japan's defeat in the war on August 15, many war survivors had a very vivid attachment to Obon, but the number of such war survivors is decreasing, and the atmosphere of Obon is disappearing from society.

毎年8月14日15日16日は日本のお盆という習慣だ
日にちは地域によって若干の誤差はあるものの夏の風物詩となっている
先祖の精霊を14日に迎え、15日に共に過ごし、16日に天国へ見送る。精霊流しは見送りの儀式となる
今日では大規模な精霊流しは地域の行事として残っていたり観光客目当てのイベントなどで開催されるが、お坊さんを招きお経をあげてもらう家庭も残っている
日本は8月6日に広島、9日に長崎と原爆を投下され、敗戦を迎えたのが8月15日であるので、戦争体験者にはお盆の思い入れがひときわ鮮明な人たちも多かったが、そんな戦争体験者も今では減り、ますますお盆の風情が社会から消えている
いずれご案内もするが、日本の現状はいまだに敗戦時のGHQの支配から脱しておらず、99％の日本人自身が今日の日本が独立国で自由な民主主義社会だと騙されているのには心が重たい。自由だと勘違いしサファリパークで飼われているような惨めなものだ
