私たちは、救われる人々の中でも、滅びる人々の中でも、神に献げられた芳しいキリストの香りなのです。

パウロの言う「芳しいキリストの香り」とは、一体どんな香りだったのでしょう。ローマの将軍は、凱旋行軍で、たかれた香の煙の中で自分の勝利を見せびらかせていました。それは、将軍にとっては芳しい香りでしたが、連れてこられた捕虜にとっては死の香りでした。信じない人々にとっては、死に至る香りですが、救われる人々にとっては、命に至る香りだったのです。

今日も、キリストの香りに包まれた一日となりますように・・・。

For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

What kind of fragrance was the "fragrance of Christ" that Paul was referring to? The Roman general flaunted their victory in the smoke of incense during his triumphal marches. To him it was a fragrance, but to the prisoners of war it was the scent of death. To the unbelievers, it was a deadly aroma, but to those who were saved, it was a fragrance that brought life.
