My review on Movie "Whiplash"

Personal Review:

9/10. One of the best movies I've seen. It depicts the true nature of "people who's obsessed with greatness". 

Main characters

1. Andrew. Aspiring drummer at a prestige music school. Freshman. Loves drum to his heart.
2. Fletcher. Very arrogant teacher/conductor at the music school. He believes that the best way to nurture the next great jazz musician is to give them pressure so that they "break or make" to the level they can be.

Sub characters

1. Andrew's father. He loves and protects his son, but do not understand the true passion Andrew has towards the drum.
2. Nicole. A girl who's studying at a nearby college, and works at the concession stand in the movie theater Andrew and his father goes together.

Story dynamics

Andrew and Fletcher understand each other at the level where hatred actually can be overcome with the aspiration for greatness. Whatever takes.

They don't care about their surroundings and cut others off and be cruel when they feel others are impeding their music potentials.

Climax

Andrew is late for the very important concert for reasons outside of his control (flat tire of the bus). He takes a rental car to get to the place, but he couldn't make it on time.

Fletcher makes a replacement drummer for the concert, but Andrew cannot take that decision. That's partly due to how Fletcher has been treating him, but also that he purely egoistically believes he's the best drummer in the band (and perhaps in the school). He refuses to give up his seat.

On the way back to the concert (he forgets his drum stick at the rental car office), he's been hit by the truck, while shouting to his drum position alternate "tell Felcthre I'm fucking coming back!".

Even after being hit by a truck, he walks, full of blood in his face (prob. concussion too), back to the concert hall. There, he gets on the drum, but as soon as he starts to play, his finger is unable to hold the stick. The whole band goes halts, and Fletcher tells Andrew: "You're done".

Hearing that, Andrew goes berserk and tackles Fletcher and they roll over. Andrew keeps shouting "Fuck you, fuck you Fletcher!" full of hatred.
