How to make your resignation letter valid

I've heard this before:
'I'd like to submit my resignation letter, but I'm worried whether my boss will accept it.'

In Japan, a resignation letter becomes valid when a manager who has responsible for the employee receives.
A minimum period is required at least 2 weeks, but the company cannot refuse the application if the period is longer than 2 weeks due to civil law regulations.

Some companies define the period of  2 weeks or more in their work regulations.
However, in a court case in which a company asked an employee to pay damages due to insufficient handover, the court ruled that the company should pay compensation to the employee due to harassment.

In this way, even if a company stipulates in the company rule, it's invalid in court.

How to make your resignation letter  valid

1.subimit the letter directly to your personnel authority.
your resignation letter becomes effective once your personnel authority receives it.
Therefore, even if your boss does not accept it, if you submit it directly to your personnel authority, it will be valid.

2.Keep records of submissions
if you submit your resignation letter on paper, it is best to send an email with information about when and to whom you submitted it.
That allows you to prove the date you submit it later.

Points to note when submitting your resignation letter

1.check the company regulations regarding retirement
I explain that the resignation letter expires 2 weeks before the retirement date.
However, some companies have regulations such as your severance pay or bonus being deduced if you don't keep the deadlines.
So, I recommend checking the company regulations.

2.Employees cannot unilaterally withdraw
A resignation letter becomes effective when employees submit it. 
However, once the company has received the offer, employee cannot unilaterally withdraw the offer.

Summary
some companies have different policies, so It is a good idea to check them before submitting your resignation letter.
I hope that both the company and the employee will discuss matters such as job handover and retirement.
