毎号、ガンジーの「七つの社会的罪」が最終頁に。【雑感Ⅰ】 Every issue, Gandhi's "Seven Social Sins" is on the last page

フォトジャーナリズム誌「DAYS JAPAN」は、私の写真姿勢に刺激を与えた雑誌のひとつである。残念ながら問題が起き、発行元の株式会社デイズジャパンは今年3月に倒産、雑誌は廃刊になってしまった。報道ジャーナリズムの最前線を突っ走り、世界の戦争、テロ、難民問題、民族問題、貧困、人権問題、児童問題などを取り上げる世界でも珍しい報道記録雑誌として名を馳せていた。

Photojournalism magazine "DAYS JAPAN" is one of the magazines that inspired my photographic attitude. Unfortunately, a problem arose, the publisher, Days Japan Co., Ltd. went bankrupt in March of this year, and the magazine was discontinued. It was at the forefront of news journalism and was known as one of the world's rare news journals covering the world's wars, terrorism, refugee problems, ethnic problems, poverty, human rights problems, children's problems and so on.

その「DAYS JAPAN」の数少ない広告ページの中で、表3頁(表紙裏)の内容が気になっていた。上段トップに「広告」と表示されているから広告頁には間違いないが、どこを見ても「広告主名」が見当たらない。内容は、マハトマ・ガンジー師のイラストとその上に “善きことは、カタツムリの速度で動く” というキャッチフレーズ。それにガンジー師の信念と活動、そして「七つの社会的罪」(Seven Social Sins)概要が掲載(写真)されているくらいだ。広告主がガンジー師の支援団体なら団体名は当然ながら掲載されるはず。それもない。

Among the few advertisement pages of "DAYS JAPAN", I was worried about the contents of page 3 (back cover). There is no doubt that it is an advertisement page because "Advertisement" is displayed at the top of the upper row, but "Advertiser name" cannot be found anywhere. The content is an illustration by Master Mahatma Gandhi and the catchphrase "Good things move at the speed of snails". Also, Gandhi's beliefs and activities, and the outline of "Seven Social Sins" are posted (photo). If the advertiser is a supporter of Gandhi, the name of the organization should be posted. Not even that.

ただ、私の推測でいうなら、世界の戦いの一瞬を切り取って伝えるのが趣旨の雑誌として、最終頁にガンジーストーリーでまとめている。意図があっての編集のように思える。

However, my guess is that the Gandhi story is summarized on the final page as a magazine whose purpose is to capture and convey the moment of world battle. Seems like a deliberate edit.

そのガンジーストーリーなるものは、「善きことはカタツムリの速度で動く」のキャッチコピーの横に、世界平和を訴え続けたマハトマ・ガンジー師の活動が記されてある。そしてその下に、「七つの社会的罪(Seven Social Sins)」書かれてある。
世界のどこかでいまも戦争は続いている。この地域では終戦があり得るのだろうか。善きことへカタツムリの速度でもいいから収束に向かっているのだろうか。果てしのない道のりに、マハトマ・ガンジーの「七つの社会的罪」が心に響く。

The story of the Gandhi is about the activity of Master Mahatma Gandhi, who continued to call for world peace, next to the catch phrase "Good things move at the speed of snails." And below that, there is "Seven Social Sins."
Somewhere in the world war is still going on. Is there a possible end to the war in this region? Is it going to converge because the snail speed is good? Mahatma Gandhi's "seven social sins" linger on the endless path.
