出版物ヒストリーってなんですかね。日本語版にはありません。

The original Japanese edition was released in three parts, which make up the three "books" of the single volume English language version.

英語版ではなんと３冊を１冊にまとめるという荒業がなされています。
これはさすがに無理あるでしょう。。。
（まぁ実際無理ありすぎで省略されまくってるのはまた後のお話。。。）

Prophesying
Prophecy 予言する　proが「前」で、なんか前もって言うみたいなイメージらしいです。
「Thieving Magpie」はジョアキーノ・ロッシーニの曲名からとってます。

In English translation, two chapters were originally published in The New Yorker under the titles "The Zoo Attack" on July 31, 1995, and "Another Way to Die" on January 20, 1997.

なんと"The Zoo Attack"と"Another Way to Die"という２つの章が短編小説としてニューヨーカーに先に載っていたのですね。

これは音楽でいうアルバムからシングルカットして先に発売しているやつですね！

A slightly different version of the first chapter translated by Alfred Birnbaum was published in the collection The Elephant Vanishes under the title "The Wind-up Bird and Tuesday's Women".

第1部の冒頭部分は短編小説「ねじまき鳥と火曜日の女たち」（『パン屋再襲撃』所収）を改稿したものである。

と日本語版wikiには載ってます。村上春樹は短編を膨らませて長編を書くということをよく行います。ノルウェイの森はちなみに「螢」という短編がベースとなっています。

バーンバウムとジェイ・ルービンは村上春樹の翻訳２大巨頭なのですが、お互い全くタイプが異なります。
バーンバウムはとても独創的な翻訳で、意訳多めなのが特徴です。
なので海外の人は「なんか印象違うな？」と作品によって感じているのかもしれませんね。
でもこれはビートルズにおけるポールとジョン、ブルーハーツにおけるヒロトとマーシー、はっぴぃえんどにおける大滝詠一と細野晴臣のように、まぁそれぞれを楽しもうぜ！という感じ（？）なのだと思います。

同じ名前の主人公が出てくるのは村上春樹あるあるです。

While having a similar personality and background, the character is not related to the one in The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle of the same name.

似てるけど違いますよ！ということですね。

Noboru Wataya is also used in Jay Rubin's translation of the title short story in The Elephant Vanishes.

日本語版の象の消失にでてくるのは「渡辺昇」です。英語版では「ワタヤノボル」なのでしょうか？謎が深まります（放置）
ちなみに安西水丸さんの本名が渡辺昇らしいです。言わずとしれた村上春樹の親友ですね。

In May 2010, Harvill Secker published the Limited Centenary Edition of The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle to celebrate its one hundred years of publishing. It was limited to 2,500 copies.
