立冬の花々 November in Kyoto: Prepare for winter

十一月の京都
季節はずれの暑さが続き、庭の菊がなかなか咲いてくれませんでしたが、やっと満開になりました。薔薇も赤、白、黄と色とりどりに途切れず咲いてくれています。もうおしまいだろうと庭の隅に移動させた夏花の桔梗やカーネーションがこの暖かさで数輪まだ花を咲かせ、ベゴニアもまだまだしっかり花をつけています。
暖かい天気は寒がりの私にはありがたいことですが、植物たちにとってはどうでしょう。いつ開花しよか、いつ紅葉しよか、と随分迷っていることでしょう。
今日は立冬です。さぁいよいよ寒くなります。冬支度はおこたりないですか。今のうちに紅葉狩りなど散歩の足を伸ばしてみよ。

The unseasonable heat persisted, and the chrysanthemums in the garden took their time to bloom. Finally, they are in full bloom now. Roses, too, are blooming in various colors—red, white, and yellow, uninterrupted. Summer flowers like balloon flowers and carnations, which I thought were out of season and moved to a corner of the garden, have surprised me by blooming a few more flowers in this warmth. Begonias are also producing sturdy blossoms.
The warm weather is a blessing for someone like me who is sensitive to the cold, but how do the plants feel for it? They must be quite indecisive about when to bloom or when to change their colors for autumn.
Today marks the beginning of winter according to the traditional calendar. Now, it will finally get cold. Have you prepared for winter yet? Take advantage of the current warmth and extend my daily walk, perhaps enjoying the autumn foliage.
