Through the Fukushima program, I have gained valuable experience. It cannot be compared to the information I have been getting from the news and social networking sites for the past 12 years. Even though many years have passed since the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the memories and current activities deeply impressed me.
DAY1
On the first day, I had the opportunity to meet with people in Fukushima Prefecture who are working on reconstruction. Their passion, hard work, and dedication to rebuilding their communities made me have a deep respect for the people living in Fukushima Prefecture. I felt that their daily activities show bright hope for the revival of Fukushima.
DAY2
On the second day, we learned about the damage and current situation caused by the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident and the Tohoku earthquake. I was amazed at the magnitude of the impact these events had on Fukushima Prefecture and the surrounding areas, and at the same time impressed by the strength and solidarity of the people in the affected areas. They have risen from the hardships of the past and are moving forward into the future with a desire to restore their hometowns.
Impressions
Through this program, I was able to get a close look at the current situation in Fukushima Prefecture and had the opportunity to interact with local people, and as a result, I strongly felt a sense of security and respect for Fukushima Prefecture. I realized that a visit to Fukushima is indispensable to understand the feelings and activities of the people, which cannot be conveyed through information and news reports.
I share this wonderful experience with others and encourage them to understand Fukushima Prefecture and participate in this program. It is my hope that visits to Fukushima Prefecture will provide many people with opportunities to gain new perspectives and values, and to spread warm feelings toward Fukushima Prefecture.
