英文ショートエッセイの書き方のコツ

人生がこれまでにあなたに教えてくれた最も素晴らしいことの1つは何ですか？というテーマで、私の経験のもと、英文でショートエッセイを書いてみました。

試験や資格のため、英語を勉強している方の参考になれば幸いです。

構成

英文のショートエッセイは、序章、理由、結論と組み立てて書いていくとスッキリとしたエッセイに仕上がります。

序章（Introduction）は、本題に入る前の前置きになります。魅力な序章であればあるほど、読者は本題に引き寄せられていきます。テーマについての、自分の意見をあっさり述べたり、現状どうなっているかなどを説明します。

本題（Body）は、序章で述べたことについての理由を、具体的な実例やエビデンスと筆者の意見を混ぜながら、説明していきます。２、３つ説明すると、本題に説得力が増します。

最後に、結論（Conclusion )を書いて終了します。結論は、エッセイのキーポイントを読者へ再度アピールし、最後に印象付けます。

全体のバランスとしては、序章10％、本題80％、結論10％の割合で書くと、読みやすいエッセイになるでしょう。

エッセイ

What is one of the greatest things life has taught you so far? Explain what it is and why it is important to you.

The experience of living in America is one of the greatest things life has taught me so far. Even now, many people continue to come from different countries to America for working or studying because it is one of the leading countries for business and academic fields. Following are the lessons that life has taught me.

Firstly, there are many different races, religions, cultures, and so on in America, which is much more diverse than Japan. This taught me that we all as humans are fundamentally different and there is no need to compare ourselves, I am my own person.

Secondly, needless to say, my English skills were obviously improved by living in America compared to before. In addition, I realized that learning English is not only to learn the language but also the history where it is spoken.

Lastly, I made some non-Japanese friends in America during my stay there. Generally speaking, It is quite hard for Japanese people to make foreign friends in Japan. I had an opportunity to exchange our culture, which enriched my life.

For all of the above reasons, the experience is one of my greatest things life has taught me so far.
