パリオリンピック閉会式：2024年8月12日（月）

8月12日午前4時過ぎ（日本時間）からパリオリンピック閉会式が行われた。100年ぶりにパリで開催されたオリンピックも，異例尽くしの出来事の連続ではあったが無事に幕を下ろした。4年後の2028年にはアメリカ合衆国のロサンゼルスでの開催だ。

　閉会式では，私と同年代のトム・クルーズが映画の「ミッションインポッシブル」さながらのスカイダンスの披露と，五輪旗を掲げてオートバイでパリ市内を駆け抜けて飛行機に飛び乗る演出も見せてくれた。そして最後は，いまの80代から60代の世代にはお馴染みの「マイウェイ」をフランス歌手のイズルトさんによる熱唱で幕を閉じた。この「マイウェイ」は，私たちの世代ではアメリカ歌手のフランク・シナトラの代表曲として記憶にある人が多いかもしれないが，実は，この原曲はフランスのクロード・フランソワによる作詞・作曲の「Comme d'habitude」（1967年）であり，フランス語で書かれた歌であった。その意味でも，次回のロサンゼルスオリンピックへの橋渡しとして，この曲が選曲されたのだろう。パリオリンピックは，フランスの歴史を上手に表現できたオリンピックであったと思う。

　ただ，その一方で，日本では，異例ながら，台風5号が8月12日午前8時半ごろに岩手県大船渡市付近に上陸した。さきの7月25日から，山形県，秋田県，北海道では梅雨前線による大雨と洪水に見舞われたところであるが，今回の台風による記録的な大雨が新たな土砂災害，河川氾濫，浸水，および農作物被害が心配される。今年の秋の農作物の収穫への影響が心配されるところである。

　日本では，うかうかと祭典の「祭りのあと」に酔いしれている場合ではない。粛々と，南海トラフ地震臨時情報（巨大地震注意）への防災対応を抜け目なく取り組む必要がある。「想定外」は必ず起きる。想定地域外で巨大地震が起きる確率はゼロではない。なかでも「原子力発電所」の安全確保については，南海トラフ地震の想定地域内であろうが，想定地域外（とりわけ日本海側の原発）であろうが，すべての原発に対して安全確保を徹底してもらいたい。

Paris Olympic Closing Ceremony：August 12th(Monday)

The closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics took place on August 12, starting shortly after 4 a.m. (Japan time). The Olympics, held in Paris for the first time in 100 years, were full of unprecedented events, but they concluded successfully. The next Games will be held in Los Angeles, USA, in 2028.

During the closing ceremony, Tom Cruise, who is around my age, put on a sky dance performance reminiscent of his movie "Mission Impossible." He also rode a motorcycle through the streets of Paris, holding the Olympic flag, and jumped onto an airplane as part of the show. The ceremony ended with a passionate rendition of "My Way" by the French singer Yseult, a song familiar to those in their 60s to 80s. Although many in my generation remember "My Way" as a signature song of the American singer Frank Sinatra, it was originally a French song written and composed by Claude François in 1967, titled "Comme d'habitude." The choice of this song likely served as a bridge to the next Olympics in Los Angeles. The Paris Olympics, I believe, successfully expressed the rich history of France.

Meanwhile, in Japan, an unusual event occurred as Typhoon No. 5 made landfall near Ōfunato City in Iwate Prefecture around 8:30 a.m. on August 12. From July 25 onwards, heavy rain and flooding caused by the rainy season front affected Yamagata, Akita, and Hokkaido, and this typhoon's record-breaking rainfall raises concerns about new landslides, river flooding, inundation, and damage to crops. There are growing concerns about the impact on this year's autumn harvest.

In Japan, we cannot afford to revel in the post-festival atmosphere. We must meticulously and promptly address disaster preparedness in response to the emergency information on the Nankai Trough Earthquake (Major Earthquake Warning). The "unexpected" will inevitably occur. The probability of a massive earthquake is not zero, even in areas outside the anticipated region. Above all, with regard to the safety of nuclear power plants, we must ensure safety measures not only within the anticipated area of the Nankai Trough Earthquake but also outside it (especially nuclear power plants along the Japan Sea).
