#70 サッチャー首相の声の出し方（ザ・クラウン）

『ザ・クラウン』のシーズン４に登場したマーガレット・サッチャー首相。演じていたのは、『Ｘ-ファイル』でスカリー捜査官役だったジリアン・アンダーソンです。

こちらはスティーヴン・コルベアのA Late Show に出演した時のジリアン・アンダーソン。

ジリアンは2分32秒から、サッチャー首相を演じるにあたり”声が何より大事だった”と語っています。

Well, certainly, the voice is a big weigh-in to her. You can do everything that you want physically in terms of adding a wig and adding clothes and I wore a suit to make me a bit wider. 
（彼女を演じるにあたり、当然ですが声は非常に重要でした。
外見的にはカツラをかぶったり、衣装を着る時には身体に厚みを加えるためにスーツを着ました。）

But at the end of the day, if you don't really have the voice right, it's a little bit odd.

Gillian Anderson On 'The Crown' & 'The X-Files' : Fresh Air

ジリアン・アンダーソンが具体的に、Terry Gross のポッドキャスト Fresh Airで、あの独特の声の出し方を解説していました。5分50秒からです。

【テリー】
Can you talk about what you wore and also the voice that you assumed to play her because, as we could hear in your portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, she had a very measured, strong, precise, slow, powerful way of speaking.
（何を着たのか、そして役柄の声について聞かせてください。ドラマでのサッチャー首相の話し方は計算され、強く、正確で、ゆっくりで、力に満ちていました。）

【ジリアン】
(衣装については省略)... But it was really, I think getting comfortable enough in her vocal qualities, which you know, as you say, is very measured, and etc.
（彼女の声の特徴に慣れていくのが肝でした。おっしゃる通り、彼女は声の出し方を計算し尽くしていました。）

But she was also known for her pitch, sometimes and especially in party conferences or when she was talking to large crowds and performing as she knew that she was good at doing.
（声に高低をつけることでも、よく知られていました。特に議会で発言する時や、大勢の人の前で話をする時、彼女は自分が素晴らしいスピーカーであることをよく認識していました。）

She did raise the temperature and her pitch and the energy going into it. And so, there's a lot more fluctuation in her public voice than we necessarily see in The Crown in so many of these indoor scenes.

She would talk like this, and she would very much breathe outwards when she was speaking. And she would take a breath in.
（こんな風に話します。そして、話しながら同時に息を吐き出します。そして、息を吸い込みます。

So if you were going to interrupt her she would breathe over and talk over you.
そして、誰かが彼女の喋りを遮ろうとすると、彼女はそこで息を吐き出ししながら喋ることで、相手の声の上に自分の声をかぶせます。）

But then sometimes if she was talking to an audience, and there was a great many people who were speaking, she could really, kind of bring the voice up here and speak to the larger crowd and you know, she would...you know.

You portray Thatcher with a slight hoarseness to your voice. How did you do that without hurting your voice?

【ジリアン】
There’s so much breath in her voice that it was easy enough to be able to ground it in a lower down in the diaphragm, and not go too throaty.
（息が声に多く混ざっているので、横隔膜を下げた状態を作る、ということが十分に出来ました。喉にあまり頼らずに済みました。）

【テリー】
How do you get more air in your voice, more breath in your voice?
（どうしたら声に空気を混ぜられるんでしょうか？どうやって声に息を混ぜるのですか？）

【ジリアン】
It's kind of sighing...Sighing...at the same time...Try it. Try it, Terry Gross.
（ため息をつく感じで・・・ため息をつきながら、話をするのです。

Sighing...like sighing...sighing...at the same time...like this...Do I sound as authoritative as Margaret Thatcher..? I don't think so...I sound foolish.

最初にサッチャー首相を見て、その後でスカリーを見たとしたら、演じていたのが同一人物とは、とても思えなかったと思います。スゴイ。
