<洋書を読んだ>The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan

I wanted to read a romance novel that was soothing, more than something fast-paced and thrilling, and something that took place in the U.K. And this book was just that. It's about a girl Nina, who is one of the biggest book worms ever. She spends most of her time reading books. After she loses her job as a librarian, she comes up with this seemingly wild idea of selling books on a van in Scotland. It was a predictable and happy read, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a slow and easy to follow romance novel. British English conversations in the book were very refreshing to me, and it made me want to visit the U.K. The below are some quotes I liked.

Just do something. You might make a mistake, then you can fix it. But if you do nothing, you can't fix anything. And your life might turn out to be full of regrets.

It's stating the obvious, but as most say, action is the most important. Very often it's easier said than done (for me at least), actions speak louder than words so we all just gotta do it, right..?

There was a universe inside every human being every bit as big as the universe outside them. Books were the best way Nina knew- apart from, sometimes, music- to breach the barrier, to connect the internal universe with the external, the words acting merely as a conduit between the two worlds.

Yes, exactly this. Sometimes we figure how to deal with our own internal struggles through external input like book. Reading helps me process my own feelings sometimes.

Because life is like that, isn't it? If you thought of all the tiny things that divert your path one way of another, some good, some bad, you'd never do anything ever again. And some people don't. Some people go through life no really deciding to do much, not wanting to, always too fearful of the consequences to try something new. Of course, that in itself is also a decision. You'll get somewhere whether you put any effort into it or not. But doing something new is so hard. And a few things can help.

I just realized that the above quote is similar to the quote I mentioned in the beginning. I guess the point is, we all make decisions and whether to act or not is our very own decision. It's not about other people, and blaming others for not being able to act or make a decision, is easy but it's not fair or right. It's all up to ourselves, right? As they say, "Happiness is all in our minds."

And I end with this today.
