木材は鳥取県産にこだわり、科学塗料は使用せず、釘もなるべく使わないなど、誰が使っても気持ちのよいモノづくりを目指しています。食器の引き出しをあけたとき、たくさんある食器の中から自然と手に取って使っている、そんな、気取らない普段使いをして欲しいと思います。
Yasunori Asakura makes authentic wooden products from Tottori wood, without any chemical finishes, and using as few nails as possible. Their goal is to create products that are pleasant to use. Amongst all the tableware in your kitchen cupboard, Asakura makes pieces you naturally choose to use again and again. This work was meant to become a part of your daily life.
地元、鳥取県の県産材（広葉樹）の本桜を主に手鉋（てがんな）や鑿（の
み）などで家具からカトラリーなど多種に渡り制作しています。工房は鳥取県の中部にある湯梨浜町に位置し、町名は温泉の湧き出る土地と日本海が望める場所、町の産品、鳥取を代表する二十世紀梨が栽培されていることから " 湯梨浜 （ゆりはま）" という名前がつけられています。
山陰は四季がはっきりしていて冬は積雪し、製品になる桜材はゆっくりと育まれ、硬く年輪もぎゅっと詰まっているので手加工では苦労が絶えませんが堅牢で綺麗な作品へと変化していきます。
Asakura mainly uses cherry tree hardwood produced in Tottori Prefecture, shaping the wood with hand planes and chisels. He produces a wide variety of products, from furniture to cutlery.
Asakura’s workshop is in Yurihama Town in the central area of Tottori Prefecture. The town's name, Yurihama 湯梨浜, has a significant meaning. The kanji represents 湯=the land where hot springs gush, 梨=the Nijisseiki pear that Tottori is famous for cultivating, and 浜=the view of the Sea of Japan.
The San'in Area has four distinct seasons. The heavy snowfall in the winter slows down the growing process of cherry trees. The wood is very hard and has many annual rings, making it difficult to process by hand. However, with effort, it is made into sturdy, elegant pieces.
丸太を製材して室外で1年乾燥させた後に製品のイメージをして、木取りし、室内で3年から5年乾燥させた後、木材を荒取りし、シーズニングを終えた後
に鑿（のみ）と鉋（かんな）でイメージされた形に削り出していきます。
After the trees are cut down, the logs dry outside for one year. During this time, an image of how the wood will be used is devised. Then, the wood is roughly cut and brought inside to dry for another 3-5 years. After the wood has been seasoned, it is carefully carved with chisels and hand planes, bringing to life the image that was earlier devised.
シーズニングとは
荒取りされた材料を室内でゆっくり乾燥させた後に最終的に必要な形状（今回の場合は脚部の仕上がり寸法）よりも少し大きめの状態で１週間程度寝かせておくことで、加工場の環境に材がなじみ、材の中にたまった歪みを出し切る期間として設けます。
また材料が若い木だと歪みや反りが大きく扱いにくい面があります、成長した材料であれば歪みや反りが少なく安定した材へとなり、家具になった場合、長年の使用にも耐えうるようになります。
About Seasoning
After slowly drying the roughly cut wood inside, it is left for about a week at a slightly larger size than the shape required (in this case, table legs).
The wood needs time to acclimate to the workshop's atmosphere and release accumulated distortion.
Young wood tends to have more distortion and warping, making it difficult to handle. Aged wood has less distortion and warping, making it a stable wood for furniture that will last many years.
The legs of the stool were carved with a plane to create a polygonal cylindrical shape.
スツールの座面部分は荒取りされた5cmの厚みの角板（幅40cm x 奥行24cm）から舟形のように削り出していきます。
天板面は鑿の跡が残るように朝倉さんの証となる彫り面が残っています。
The stool's seat is carved out like a boat from a 5cm thick square board (40cm wide x 24cm) with a rough finish.
The chisel marks remain on the upper surface, a characteristic of Asakura's work.
塗装は胡桃オイルを拭き込んで仕上げておりますのでしっとりとした艶感があり桜の美しい木目が引き立ちます。
As a final touch, walnut oil is applied to the surface, giving it a moist and shiny finish and bringing out the cherry wood's beautiful grain.
長年の使用によるメンテンス依頼やオイル・漆の塗り直し依頼は有償にはなりますがいつでも対応いたします。山陰の地でゆっくりと成長を重ねた木を家具や調度品にするということは、使い手の方に愛され続ける事、メンテンスを施してでも使い続けたいという製品作りを目指していきます。山陰の森で過ごした年月よりも長く使い込んでいただけるよう技術を高め、見識を深めることを作り手も当店も努力していきます。

Asakura is always ready to respond to requests for maintenance or re-coating with oil or lacquer (additional fees are required for these services). This is with the goal that each piece of furniture can be used longer than the lifetime of the trees in the forests of the San'in region that were harvested to make them.
