Willkommen-Cabaret(Musical)-

Next month, I'm going to NYC to see the musical performances as I do every year, and from today, I'm trying to read  and analyze the lyrics.

I chose "Cabaret"as the first one.The musical was created in 1966 by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Joe Masteroff. It is set-in 1929-1930 Berlin during the twilight of the Jazz Age when the Nazis were coming to power. As you know, this was the time of the biggest depression.

Willkommen which singing by Emsee is the opening number of Cabaret.
Emsee is performed by Eddie Redmayne in this time.

Lyrics

Welcome! stranger
Happy to see you
Stay!
Welcome! to cabaret!

Ladies and gentlemen
Good evening
Do you feel good?
I am your host!
Welcome to cabaret!

Leave your troubles outside
So, life is disappointing
Ah ! Forget it!
We have no troubles here
For here, life is beautiful
The girls are beautiful
Even the orchestra is beautiful

And now presenting the cabaret girls
Rosie! she smells so sweet, she will make you leap

[leap]
Verb-jump or spring a long way, to great height *jump over *rush *spring
Noun-a dramatic increase amount *jump *sudden rise *bound

Lulu! Does she make you a little lulu?
Yes does she?
Do I make you a little lulu?
A little bit?
Do you want to see me dance a little, Lulu?

Yes for a few marks gentlemen
Anything is possible

Frenchie, is like a croissant
She’s hard and crusty on the outside
But warm and moist on the inside

Texas is from America
And I love a good yank!

Fritzie you have to stop with the bending down thing
No, please, already three bottles of champagne
No, be careful sir, you could be next!

And last, but not least Helga!
Helga is my baby
And when she is bad, I spank her
and she is very very very bad

Oh Rosie, Lulu,Texas, Frenchie and Helga!
Each and everyone, a virgin!
This guy you don’t believe me
Ha ha ha! He doesn’t believe me
But don’t take my word fo it
Go ahead, please try Helga!

Outside it is winter
But here it is so hot
Every night I have to battle with the girls
To stop them from taking off all their clothing
So don’t go away
For who knows, tonight
We may lose the battle!

We are here to serve you
and now, presenting the cabaret boys

Bobby and VIctor !
Oh this is Victor and Bobby !
Well you see there is really only the one way
To tell the difference
It’s the earlobes!

[earlobe]
rounded fleshy part hanging from the lower margin of the ear.

Hans here
He knows 27 different sexual positions!
This is a new one
and now he is ready to try this, on people!

Herman!
Ok, so the funniest thing about Herman
there is absolutely nothing funny

and now!
Presenting the Toast of Mayfair, Sally Bowles!
Hello darlings!
Yes! Stay

Welcome to the Kit Kat Club!

Analysis

You can see the comparison between inside and outside from this lyrics.
The Constraction as Cabaret, People(performers and audience),The venue(Broadway and Manhattan and NYC) .Everything has contrast such as inside and outside.

I have reminded about works by Louise Bourgeois when I thought it. I'll introduce you the statement of the Exhibition.

Night and day. Two times, two states, two conditions in opposition. But bound together, impossible to separate, each un thinkable without  the other.

Has the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day?

Shadows are always behind the lights. "Cabaret" is about a time of social upheaval. Why could I say "It's different now".

Fortunately, if you can feel the lights in your life now,
someone is living in the shadows at the same time.
