Day41

Today is the last day of my 1st term.
This means that One-6th  of my school life was finished.
I could feel progress than 6 weeks ago.
The biggest difference is that I don’t think in Japanese language.
Sure, I could easier to talk with host family and teachers, students, but not enough.
When I walked around the city, someone would ask me something.
But sometimes I couldn’t understand.

I had a lunch meeting with my mentor.
Actually most of the students don’t have a mentor.
Only 4 students have a mentor to support a process for university.
She tells us the advantage of studying at our school.
If you want to study abroad, you have to take IELT and score more than the reference score.
But in our case, we can apply to university with is connected to our school without IELT score.

I had considered some information when I lived in Tokyo, I decided to take this course and apply to Essex University.

Last summer, I decided go back to university to study Creation and Design for Theatre Performance.
I hope to study in London because it has been the centre of theatre culture for over 400 years.
And the town(West End)and the audience gave me a hope to alive. I would like to repay them.

My goal is to become a director is theatre performance.
But there are some problems.
Most educational institutions don’t have courses to study directing.
Almost directors become an actor or actress or dancer before to be a director.
This issue has been discussed for a long time, but it has not changed.
But I can’t act something and I don’t want to act something.

My plan is to study design for theatre performance, and make a career as designer.
And then, I will find the opportunity to design whole things which means directing in my career.
I know it will be a long way. Maybe the plan takes about 15 years to complete from now.

Since tonight, I have been thinking about studying in Sydney.
NIDA(National Institute of Dramatic Art) is known as one of the most important universities for the industry.
This university was ranked as 10th by The Hollywood Reporter in 2018.
RADA(Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) and LAMDA(London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) which are the most effective universities in London
were ranked 5th and 9th. NIDA is certainly an attractive option for me.

Last night I went to the Studio of  Sydney opera house.
This is the first time to enter there.
There is tiny space than another space at opera house, but also the space gives me an inspiration to create.

Today’s work is “Game Theory” that came from Switzerland. When I had read their statement, I decided to go. The statement said “Before dance became art, it was a game.” They imitate actions of animals and sports. These actions would change to choreography. It’s whimsical to me. At the same time, I wonder why the sports can unite so many people. For example, this dance piece started with badminton‘s match. When we watched the match, audience became the one team. It was interesting.
