April 7, 2023: Travel to Africa, Tunisia (アフリカ訪問（１）、チュニジア)

When I was a salesman for overseas markets, I travelled to a lot of countries. But I only had the chance to visit Africa twice. First I went to Tunisia and then, many years later, to Egypt.
It was about thirty years ago that I went to Tunisia. I had the chance as my Italian customer invited me to travel with him. After my customer and I arrived at Tunis airport, we took a bus for about two hours to a resort and stayed there for three days. It was completely secluded from where the locals lived. It was surrounded by high fences and had a lot of guards at the entrance. In the resort, I could talk with the staff in English or French. This was because Tunisia had a certain relationship with France. So the resort had a European atmosphere and did not make me feel anything special.
The day after we arrived, I had a chance to sightsee Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, but I missed it. I drank too much the day before and was unable to wake up to catch a bus to Tunis.
In retrospect, it was a big mistake for me to drink too much the day before. I would like to visit the country again.

　海外営業をしていたころ、たくさんの国を訪れました。でも、アフリカには２度しかいったことがありません。最初に足を踏み入れた国がチュニジアで、それから何年も経てエジプトを訪れました。チュニジアにいったのは、30年ほど前のことです。イタリアのお客さんに招待されて訪れました。チュニスの空港に到着と、2時ほどバスに乗ってリゾートに移動し、数日滞在しました。ここは、現地の人が住む地域からは隔離されていました。周りは高いフェンスで囲まれ、入り口にはガードマンがいいました。リゾートの中では、スタッフと英語またはフランス語で話せました。チュニジアにはフランスの影響がのこっているようでした。そのため、リゾート内は、ヨーロッパの雰囲気で特に変わった感じがしませんでした。
　到着した翌日、首都のチュニスを観光するチャンスはありましたが、残念ながら逸してしまいました。前日に飲みすぎでバスの出発時刻に起きられなかったためです。結局、チュニジアらしさを味わくことなく、チュニジアを後にすることになりました。
　今思うと、前日に飲みすぎたのがよくなかったです。もう一度行きたいです。
