July 6, 2022: Matterhorn, Skiing, Breathtaking View, Accident （マッターホルン、スキー、息をのむ光景、アクシデント）
Zermatt had fine weather the following morning. I was deeply moved by a beautiful Matterhorn which I could see through the window of my room. It took my weariness of the long journey away. Shortly after breakfast, we, with skis, met a tour guide and left the hotel to take a train heading for Gornergrat. The train left Zermatt for the summit station of the Gornergrat at 3,089m. Upon its departure, it gave me a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn. It was a very ineffable sight. Matterhorn was so close to me at the summit station that I got lost in the beauty. We began to ski slowly. The ski slopes were so broad and empty that I could ski down freely. We took lunch at a mountainside restaurant. The excellent tour guide helped me enjoy skiing.
However, something unfortunate happened. A female member of the tour hit her chest hard while skiing. As it happened around the top of the mountain, the tour guide called for help and passed her to the rescue team. She was diagnosed at a hospital as breaking her ribs and requiring rest. Therefore, she had to give up skiing, unfortunately.
ツェルマットの翌朝は快晴でした。ホテルの窓からマッターホルンが見え、感動ものでした。 昨日の疲れはすっかり飛んでいました。朝食後、スキーを抱えて、ガイドさんと合流して、ゴルナーグラート行きの電車に乗るためにホテルをでました。電車は、3089mの所にある山頂駅に向けて出発しました。出発するやいなや、マッターホルンの息を吞む光景が広がってきました。まさに筆舌しがたい光景です。3089mの山頂に着くと、マッターホルンが間近に見え、見取れてしまうほどの美しさでした。そして、コースをのんびりと滑り始めました。コースは空いていて、縦横無尽に滑ることができ爽快でした。途中で、休憩がてらランチも取りました。ガイドさんのお陰で、一日中、スキーを満喫できました。
ただ、残念なこともありました。同じツアーの女性の方がスキーで転んで胸を強打してしまいました。山頂付近でのけがだったので、ガイドさんが救助を依頼してくれました。肋骨が折れているため安静が必要と病院で診断されました。このかたは残念ながら、スキーができなくなりました。
