October 18, 2021： 初雪、スキー、フレンチアルプス、スケートボード、ブーム (First Snow, Skiing, French Alps, Skateboarding, Booming)
It is getting quite cold. Asahikawa and Wakkanai in Hokkaido had their first snow this year. This season always reminds me of skiing. Up to around twenty-five years ago, I had gone skiing every year. In Japan, Shiga Kogen and Nozawa Onsen were my favourite ski resorts. In Europe, Meribel was one of my best ski resorts. It is located in the middle of Les Trois Vallées (the three valleys) in France, the largest ski area, enabling us to move to the neighbouring Courchevel and Val Thorens. Just thinking of the very long and wide courses I had never experienced in Japan still excites me.
The number of skiers in Japan peaked at 18 million in 1998 and has decreased by one-third to 5.8 million in 2016. On the other hand, skateboarding is booming, and so many skateboard parks have opened. It enjoys a virtuous cycle of winning medals at the Tokyo Olympic Games, increase in skateboarders and skate parks. I hope that it will gain widespread popularity here and a lot of global players will be born.
寒くなってきた。北海道の旭川や稚内では初雪が観測された。この時期になると、スキーのことを思い出す。25年くらい前までは、毎年のようにスキーに行っていた。日本では、志賀高原と野沢温泉がお気に入りのスキー場でした。欧州でも、スキーに行きました。特に、フランスのメリベルは最高です。トロワバレーという広大なスキー場の中心に位置し、隣のクールシュベルやバルトーランスへも移動が可能。日本では味わえない長くて広いコース。今、思い出してもワクワクしてきます。
日本のスキー人口は減っているようです。1998年シーズンの1,800万人がピークで、それ以降は減少の一途で、2016年には1/3の580万人にまでに減少しました。 その一方で、スケートボードが大人気です。スケボーパークも続々とできていいます。東京オリンピックでスケボー選手が活躍した結果、スケボーに挑戦する人が増え、スケボーパークが増加するという、理想的な好循環です。スケボーの人気が定着し、グローバルで活躍する選手が続々と生まれることを願います。
