How do you usually study English in your daily life?
The development of online services has made it possible to study English from anywhere and at any time. Many free and excellent apps have also been released, allowing us to improve our English without spending a lot of money.
On the other hand, there are many similar services out there, and it can be time-consuming to choose the best one. I believe that online English conversation services, which I will compare here, are one such service.
In my personal opinion, I think it is very important to start as quickly and as easily as possible when learning a language such as English. It would be a waste if you end up quitting your study because you are not sure which service is best for you!
 
In this article, I will compare four services (Rarejob Eikaiwa, DMM Eikaiwa, Native Camp, and Cambly) that I have experienced, share my experiences, and introduce my recommendations!
First, I will introduce the services briefly. I will then compare each one from four perspectives: (1) price, (2) quality of teachers, (3) quality of teaching materials, and (4) quality of online tools.
 
I hope this article will be useful for those who are just starting to learn English or are currently working hard to learn a language!
 

RareJob Eikaiwa

I chose Rarejob Eikaiwa because Atsu, an English learning Youtuber, recommended it! To be honest, I chose ReaJob Eikaiwa without much comparison. I just searched for "online English conversation beginner" at first. As a result, I am very happy with the results.

Service Details

1) Price 

I think the price of Rarejob is normal.

2) About the quality of teachers

Summary: Neither good nor bad! Many Filipino female teachers are good at teaching.

Good points: Filipino female teachers are polite in their teaching style, and although there are individual differences, many teachers pointed out grammatical mistakes in detail from what we talked about, and many teachers typed paraphrased sentences in the chat.
 
Not so good: The teachers are not always the same. The teachers' evaluations are not objective.
Male teachers in the Philippines spend a lot of time chatting before the lesson, and I sometimes feel that it is a waste of time. Some teachers canceled the lesson just before starting lessons. Even though you will be issued a ticket to make another reservation, you might lose your motivation for speaking English.

3) Quality of teaching materials

In summary, the curriculum is sure to help you improve your level! The quality of the teaching materials is top-level.

Personally, I think the quality of the teaching materials is the best of the 5 services! The curriculum is well organized, and you can gradually work through the material at your own pace.
I highly recommend this service for those who are just starting to learn English online. In fact, I was able to move up from level 4 to level 7 on the RareJob level check test in about 6 months! I feel that this is because of the materials provided by RareJob.

4) Videocall Quality 

Summary: Most of the teachers live in the Philippines, so the quality of the call tends to be poor during the rainy season.

During the rainy season in the Philippines, and when it was raining, online connections were sometimes interrupted or time was lost due to not being able to hear voices. This was very annoying because you can only make one reservation.

Recommendation of RareJob English Conversation

Recommendation for beginners of online English conversation: ★★★★★
Intermediate to the advanced learner: ★★★

If you are still worried about your speaking ability, or if you are a beginner in online English conversation, it is better to have a feeling of certainty that you can learn just by taking lessons according to the curriculum, rather than free talk, etc. In this respect, I recommend Rarejob Eikaiwa for beginners because of the quality of its teaching materials✨.

DMM Eikaiwa

1) Price

Like RareJob Eikaiwa, I think the price is normal for DMM.

2) Quality of teachers

Summary: Quite good. Probably the top among the 5 services.

Good point: I felt that the quality of the teachers was quite consistent. Most of the teachers read and check your requests. Also, you can choose lessons by reading the teacher's evaluation.
Most of the teachers read out my request before the lesson and checked if it is OK, so I think it is easy to have a lesson according to your request!

Not so good: Nothing in particular. As with other services, it depends on the teacher.
 

3) Quality of teaching materials

Summary: Average. I think ReaJob English is better.

Good points: The news discussion was very useful!
Not so good: I have the impression that the quality of the material is better in RareJob Eikaiwa. I wasn't sure if the material was suitable for my level.

4) Videocall Quality 

Summary: Average

As with RareJob English, there were times when the connections were bad if I took a lesson with a teacher from the Philippines during the rainy season, but other than that, I didn't feel any inconvenience.

Recommendation of DMM Eikaiwa

Recommendation for online English conversation beginners: ★★★
Intermediate level: ★★★★

Cambly

1) Price

The most expensive because the all teachers are native English speakers.

2) Quality of teachers

Summary: Not as good as I thought.

Good points: You can learn native expressions from native teachers.
Not so good: Teachers are very different from each other. Many teachers ignore requests for lessons (I feel). There were often times when the teacher would just talk one-sidedly and that was it.
 

3) Quality of teaching materials

Summary: Average

I really don't know if it is good or bad...because in any case it just becomes free conversations. 

4) Quality of online communication

Summary: I had no problems with communication (but maybe that's because I was using it for a short period of time).

Recommendation of Cambly

Recommendation for beginners of online English conversation: ★
Intermediate to advanced users: ★★★

I recommend it to those who definitely want to learn English from native speakers, or want to get used to the speed of native speakers. However, I personally had doubts about the value for money, so I quit after a month or so.

Native Camp

1) Price

The cheapest among the five! (It is so cost-effective, but it depends on the individual.)
 

2) Teacher quality

Summary: Average

Good points: As expected, Filipino female teachers follow your requests! So, you can take a lesson according to your request such as "I want to practice IELTS speaking", etc!
The teachers from other countries tend to just chat with you if you don't specify the lesson.
 

3) Quality of the teaching materials

Summary: I have the impression that the curriculum is not solid. Not for beginners.

Good points: 5 minutes discussion is good for IELTS speaking test preparation. The free talk lessons are very good, and you can choose the lessons you want to do.

Not good points: The materials are not very good (compared to RareJob Eikaiwa and DMM), so as a beginner, I had to leave the course. There were some things that were just read aloud, and it was harder to feel a sense of growth than with RareJob English Conversation.

4) Videocall Quality

Summary: The site is better than the app, and the connection is better than the app.

For some reason, when I take lessons on the website, the communication often breaks up. However, it is good to be able to pick up the connection right away even if it is cut off.

Recommendation of Native Camp

Recommendation for beginners of online English conversation: ★
Intermediate to advanced users: ★★★★

When you are at the intermediate to advanced level, feedback on your output is more important than being taught English. In this respect, I recommend Native Camp, where you can take as many lessons as you want!
 

Conclusion

Choose a service that suits your level and habits!
It is difficult to say which service is absolutely best for you. Therefore, in order to choose the best service for you, we recommend that you write down the following three factors and consider them!

The three factors are...

• Know your level of English conversation.

• Understand your English learning habits.

• Clarify your needs.

For those who have just started taking online English conversation lessons:
1) Level: Beginner, enough speaking ability to pass an Eiken Level 2 to Level 1 speaking test (*Eiken is very loose with speaking).
2) I still have not got used to speaking English. I don't do it unless there is a predetermined time.
(3) I want to learn properly/thoroughly along with the material.
I want to learn well by following the material. （I want to learn English well.)
I want to make it a habit to take lessons at a certain time!
I want to take a lesson every day.
 
From these reasons

• I want a service where I can take English conversation at a time that I can choose. 

• Service with high-quality teachers and good teaching materials.

 
Therefore, I think that Rarejob Eikaiwa or DMM Eikaiwa is the right service for me.
 
Current  Level: Intermediate, EIKEN Level 1, IELTS Speaking 6.0-6.5
2) English conversation has become a habit to some extent. I can make it a habit by myself.
3) I prefer to have many opportunities to speak anyway (I want to take lessons for a long time).
I want to take lessons whenever I want because my schedule is different depending on the day.
I want to take lessons every day.
I would like to have FB, but I would like to have more time to speak. (I can look back on it later in the recording.)
 
From these reasons,

• A service that allows me to take lessons without making reservations

• I want a service where I can speak a lot.

Therefore, I choose Native Camp for unlimited lessons! I am now choosing to do Native Camp because they offer unlimited lessons.

皆さんは普段どのように英語学習をしていますか？
オンラインでのサービスの発達によって場所や時間に囚われない英語学習が可能になりました。また無料で優良なアプリも多くリリースされており、以前よりお金をかけずに英語力を伸ばしやすい環境になったと言えます。
しかしその一方で似たようなサービスが乱立しており、どれが一番良いのかを選択することに時間がかかってしまうことも多いのではないでしょうか。特に今回比較するオンライン英会話はその一つだと考えています。
筆者の個人的な意見になりますが、英語学習といった言語学習においてスタートのハードルがいかに低いかはとても重要だと思っています。「どのサービスがいいのかがわからず、最終的に選ぶのが面倒になってしまい、学習を始めるのを辞めてしまった。」となってしまっては大変もったいないです！
 
ここでは筆者が体験したことがあるサービス５つ（レアジョブ英会話、DMM英会話、ネイティブキャンプ、Cambly）を比較、経験談をお伝えするとともに筆者のおすすめを紹介します！
はじめに私のオンライン英会話遍歴について紹介した後、簡単なサービス内容の紹介に入ります。そしてそれぞれのサービスについて4つの観点から（①値段②教師の質③教材の質④オンライン通信の質）から比較を行います。
 
本記事がこれから英語学習を始める方や現在言語学習に励んでいる方にとって有益なものになりますように！

レアジョブ英会話

英語学習系Youtuber のAtsuさんがおすすめしていたからです！と最初は「オンライン英会話初心者」と検索しただけであまり比較はせず、レアジョブ英会話を選びました。結果としてはとても良かったと思っています。
サービス内容

１）値段

レアジョブの値段は普通なのかなと思います。

２）教師の質

まとめ：可もなく不可もなく！フィリピン女性講師は教え方が上手な人が多い。
 
＜詳細＞
良い点：フィリピン女性講師は教え方が丁寧、個人差はあるものの話した内容の文法的ミスなどを細かく指摘してくれたり、言い換えの文章をチャットに打ってくれる先生も多かったイメージがあります。
 
いまいちな点：当たりはずれがあるところ。教師の評価が客観的にわからない点。
フィリピンの男性講師はレッスン前の雑談が長く、なかなかレッスンが始まらない。といったことが多々ありました。。（生徒の性別によるかもしれません）先生によっては急にキャンセル！といったこともあり、レッスンがなくなってしまう（ちゃんともう一度予約できるチケットが発行されます）ことも何度かありました。 

３）教材の質

まとめ：確実にレベルアップできるカリキュラム！教材の質はトップ。
＜詳細＞
個人的に教材の質は5つのサービスで一番よいと思います！カリキュラムがちゃんとしており、自分のレベルにあった教材を少しずつ進めることができます。
なのでオンライン英会話始めたての方にはとてもおすすめできます。実際私も半年ほどでレアジョブ内でのレベルチェックのレベル４から7まで上げることができました！これはレアジョブの教材があったからだと感じています。

４）通信の質

まとめ：先生はほとんどがフィリピン在住なので雨季は通信が悪くなりがち

フィリピンの雨季の時期、また雨が降っている時は通信がとぎれたり、声が聞こえなかったりして時間が奪われたりすることもありました。一度しか予約できないのでこの点はとても悩ましかったです。

レアジョブ英会話のおすすめ度

オンライン英会話初心者へのおすすめ度：★★★★★
中級者～上級者：★★
 
＜まとめ＞
まだスピーキング力に不安がある方、オンライン英会話初心者の方はフリートークなどよりもカリキュラムに沿ってレッスンを受けるだけで確実に学べる要素があるほうが良いです。その点において教材の質がいいレアジョブ英会話は初心者の方におすすめです✨

DMM英会話

１）値段

DMMはレアジョブ英会話と同様値段は普通なのかなと思います。

２）教師の質

まとめ：かなりいい。5つのサービスの中でトップ。
 
＜詳細＞
いい点：当たり外れが少ない印象。リクエストをちゃんと読んで確認してくれる講師がほとんど。先生の評価を読んでレッスンを選べる。
レッスンの前にちゃんとリクエストを読み上げてくれて、これでいい？と確認してくれる先生が多いイメージでした！リクエストに沿ったレッスンがしやすいと思います！
いまいちな点：特にない。他のサービスと同様、先生によって
 

３）教材の質

まとめ：普通。レアジョブ英会話の方がいいかな？という感じ
＜詳細＞
いい点：Newsのディスカッションはとても使えた！
いまいちな点：レアジョブ英会話の方が教材の質がいい印象。自分のレベルにあっている教材なのかがイマイチわからなかった。

４）オンライン通信の質

まとめ：普通
＜詳細＞
レアジョブ英会話と同じでフィリピンの先生を雨の時期にとってしまうと通信が悪いことはありましたが、他は特に不便さを感じませんでした。

DMM英会話のおすすめ度

オンライン英会話初心者へのおすすめ度：★★★
中級者：★★★
 
＜まとめ＞
ネイティブのレッスンを受けてみたい！英語以外のレッスンを受けたい！という人。また教師の質を重視する人はレアジョブよりDMMの方がいいかなと思います！
 

Cambly

１）値段

ネイティブの講師であるため一番高い。
 

２）教師の質

まとめ：思ったよりよくない。。
＜詳細＞
いい点：ネイティブの先生なのでネイティブ表現を学べる
いまいちな点：先生によって差が激しい。レッスンのリクエストをガン無視の先生が多い（感じがする）一方的に話されて終わり。といったこともしばしばあった。

３）教材の質

まとめ：普通
＜詳細＞
いいか悪いかよくわからないというのが本音です…というのもどうしてもフリートークになってしまうからです、、、

４）オンライン通信の質

まとめ：通信について困ったことはとくにない（が、受けていた期間が短かったからかもしれません）
 

Camblyのおすすめ度

オンライン英会話初心者へのおすすめ度：★
中級者～上級者：★★
＜まとめ＞
ネイティブから絶対に英語を学びたい！ネイティブのスピードに慣れたい！という人にとってはおすすめかもしれません！しかし個人的にはコスパに疑問があったので1か月ほどで辞めてしまいました。。
 

ネイティブキャンプ

１）値段

5つの中で一番安い！（コスパがいい！が、個人差あり）
 

２）教師の質

まとめ：普通
＜詳細＞
いい点：やはりフィリピン女性講師はリクエストに沿ってレッスンを進めてくれる！そのためIELTSSpeaking練習がしたい！などリクエストに応じたレッスンが可能！
いまいちな点：フィリピン以外の国の先生はレッスンを指定しないフリートークだと雑談だけで終わってしまいがち。

３）教材の質

まとめ：カリキュラムはしっかりはしていない印象。初心者向けではない。
＜詳細＞
いい点：５minutes discussionなどはIELTSSpeakingテスト対策にはもってこい。フリートークを選んで自分の好きなレッスンを行える。
いまいちな点：教材があまりよくないため、（レアジョブ英会話との比較）初心者だった私は一度退会した。ただ音読するだけのものがあったりと成長している感覚がレアジョブ英会話の時よりも感じにくかった。

４）オンライン通信の質

まとめ：サイトは△アプリで受ける方が通信はよいイメージ
＜詳細＞
なぜかサイトで受けると通信が切れることが多々ある。ただ通信がきれてもすぐ取り直せる点はいい
 

ネイティブキャンプのおすすめ度

オンライン英会話初心者へのおすすめ度：★
中級者～上級者：★★★★
 ＜まとめ＞
中級上級になってくると、英語を教えてもらうというよりは自分のアウトプットに対するフィードバックが大切になってくるかと思います。その点でレッスンが受け放題のネイティブキャンプはおすすめです！

「自分のレベルと習慣にあったサービスを選ぶべし！」
どうしてもこれが絶対いいというのは難しいです。
そのため、自分に最適なサービスを選ぶために以下の要素３つを書き出して検討されることをおすすめします！
その３つとは…
・英会話のレベルを知ること
・自分の英語学習の習慣について理解すること
・自分のニーズをはっきりさせること

①レベル：初心者、英検2級～準１級のスピーキングテストを合格できるほどのスピーキング力（＊英検はスピーキングはとてもゆるいです）
②英語を話すことが習慣化できていない。時間をあらかじめ決まってないとやらない。

・先生から丁寧にFBが欲しい。（特に文法的なもの）
