お出かけしたい季節になってきましたね。

北海道に来た時、ぜひ寄ってほしい野外美術館があります。

アルテピアッツァ美唄、
正式名称は、安田侃彫刻美術館アルテピアッツァ美唄。
とても気持ちのいい場所です。
ストレスフルな毎日に疲れたら、ここに行ってみてはどうでしょう？

札幌から1時間足らずで車で行けます。

・アルテピアッツァ美唄とは？

アルテピアッツァとは、イタリア語で
「芸術広場」という意味。
廃校になった小学校の跡地に４０以上の大理石やブロンズの彫刻があります。

安田侃によってデザインされました。

・安田侃って誰？
国際的に有名な彫刻家です。
１９４５年北海道の美唄で生まれました。
東京藝術大学で彫刻を学び、
１９７０年にはイタリア政府の招きでイタリアの国費留学生になりました。

現在は多くをイタリアで過ごし、世界中で彫刻をつくっています。
作品は、札幌、東京、ローマ、イギリス、スペインなど世界各地にあります。

・アクセス

この美術館のある美唄はどこにあるのでしょうか？
北海道は札幌の北にあります。
札幌から高速を使って車で４０分です。

JRでは札幌駅から特急ライラックに乗って３５分です。美唄駅から美術館まではタクシーで１０分で行けます。

・なぜ美唄に？

この美術館のある美唄市は、かつて炭鉱で栄えた町です。
しかし石炭産業の斜陽に伴い、炭鉱も閉山になり、多くの人が街を去りました。小学校も廃校となり、放置されていました。
その当時の1985年、安田侃さんは日本でアトリエを探していました。彼は美唄で生まれ育ち、1980年に最初の作品「炭山の碑」を美唄で作りました。
その縁で、1985年よりここの小学校跡地で制作を始めました。小学校跡地には小さな幼稚園もあり、ここに通う子供と触れ合ううちにこの美術館の構想が生まれたそうです。「子どもたちが喜ぶ広場を作ろう」その思いからアルテピアッツァ美唄が生まれました。

彫刻たちが子供たちとも仲良く遊べるか、厳しい吹雪のなか毅然と立ち続けることが出来るかどうか、暗中模索だったと彼は言っています。
そして1992年にアルテピアッツァ美唄がオープンしました。

広大な敷地には40点あまりの彼の作品が置かれ、自然とアート、そしてかつて小学校だった建物の懐かしい雰囲気とあいまって、気持ちのいい空間を作り出しています。

彫刻には触ってもいいし、座ってもいいです。五感すべてを使って、アートと自然が感じられます。

入場料は無料ですが、施設の維持管理は、寄付で賄われています。

Let's go to The Arte Piazza Bibai !
I’d like to introduce you “Arte Piazza Bibai”, the formal name is “Kan Yasuda sclupture museum Arte Piazza Bibai”.
This is a very comfortable place.
If you tired of stressful days, I recommend to visit this place. Why? You’ll know the reason soon.

・What is Arte Piazza Bibai?
It is an open air art park.
Arte Piazza means “The art Plaza” in Italian.There are 40 sculptures made of marble and bronze.
And this park is designed by Kan Yasuda.

・Who is Kan Yasuda?
He is a Internationally famous sculptor and he was born in Bibai, Hokkaido in 1945.
He learned sculpture at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. and moved to Italy on a fellowship from Italian Government in 1970. He set up his studio at northern Italy.
Now he spend most of time in Italy, and made unique sculptures in many countries.
His works You can see his work all over the world. In Sapporo, Tokyo, Rome, UK, Spain and here in Bibai.

・Where is Bibai？

Located north of Sapporo by Car - 40 minutes from Sapporo JCT on Hokkaido Express way.
By Train - 35 minutes to Bibai Station of JR Hakodate Honsen and 10 minutes by taxi.

・Why Bibai was chosen as a art park?
This town, Bibai used to flourish by coal mining. however, as coal industry declining, this coal mine was closed and many people left this town.
The primary school has closed and abandoned.
At that time, Kan Yasuda was looking for a studio in Japan. He was born and grew in Bibai, and made his first work here in 1980. It's a coal mine monument.
With such connection, he started his work in this former elementary school site.
In this site there is a small kindergarten. During communicate with the children, he came up with the idea of the museum. “Let’s make a space for children to please them!” This thought inspired him and brought the art museum.

It was difficult to decide which sculptures can play with children better, or which can stand in the severe blizzard, he said it was like groping in the dark.
Finally, Arte Piazza Bibai opened in 1992.

・What’s in the park?
In spacious place, more than 40 sculptures are surrounded by nature.
Not only in outside, but in the classroom or gymnasium, sculptures are placed and creating cosy and nostalgic atmosphere.

You can touch them, and even sit on them. You can feel art and nature using all you five senses.
Admission fee is free. But maintenance fee is covered by donation, if you like here and would like to come back here, it’s good to donate.
