#253【English】Morning Talk Burnout

Good morning everyone, it’s Thursday, January 7th and it’s time for ambers morning English talk

Wow! It’s also been one week since the start of this new year. This week I have. Been talking about New Year's resolutions and goals, and so I’ll be continuing this topic today as well.

Today I am going to talk about burnout. While my last two talks were quite positive about setting and reaching goals, I want to talk about one possible outcome of consistently working to try and reach a goal.

Burnout is a state of physical or emotional exhaustion, and it can also affect how a person feels about him or herself and their personal view about their own level of accomplishment.

Burnout can occur most often in the workplace, but it can also happen outside of work if you’re pushing yourself too hard in other activities as well. I think it’s important to look for signs of burnout and also to take steps to prevent it before it causes potential physical or emotional damage.

I actually have suffered from burnout, and occasionally still do when it comes to work. It has different effects on different people, but some of the most common signs of burnout are exhaustion, irritability, frequent illness or decline in health, isolation, and escape fantasies.

But how can we prevent burnout? If you’re trying to start a new habit to reach a goal, it may be good to monitor your activities and watch for signs of burnout. Some activities that can help with burnout are physical exercise, eating a balanced diet, regular sleep, and communication with not only people close to you, but managers and bosses as well if your burnout is work-related.

While this isn’t the most glamorous morning talk regarding goals and resolutions, I think it’s important to talk about what happens if you push yourself too much without looking at signs of stress and fatigue.

So, my question for those that are listening today is:

Have you ever felt burnout before?
